What Happens to Us When We Die?

I don't sell fear. The Christian message is Good News. The Good News is God loves you and wants you to have more than this life.
Atheists claim "I don't need God to be good." Thing is, we aren't good. Oh we can play and pretend for awhile if we really try but it doesn't last. Don't believe me? Try this- do just good for one month heck make it a week. Good luck with that.

I'm not sure if that is ignorance based hatred, or hatred based ignorance, but it is clearly religious based hate/ignorance.

Evolution began when an organism with favorable characteristics passed on those characteristics, through its genes, to its offspring.

I like the idea that you explain what you believe. All of us may not believe the same but ain't America wonderful! I am not attacking but please explain what you believe the origins of this organism to be since this is a little off my trail.

sinful nature is always hostile to God....

Google is your friend.

I know...I know... just want to read in your words what you believe. Call me old fashioned but "A measure of a man's character is measured by his word" and "A leader is judged by his actions"

sinful nature is always hostile to God....

The exact origins of life on this planet are, to this date, unknown. That has nothing, though, to do with the topic of evolution.

Why do we assume that we HAVE to have all the answers. What's wrong with "I don't know"?

That brings up another thing. Not all non believers are hard core Atheists. Yet they're put in the same group all the time. Many want to believe, but just can't come to terms to accept it, based on what's being offered up to convince them. I don't want to be lumped into the same class of people who want crucifixes removed from water towers, or manger scenes taken down in front of city hall. Just because I'm having trouble accepting what's being offered in the way of facts, in order to believe.

Yours may be the most truthful statement I have seen on here for quite some time. You admit you don't know the truth about the existence of God yet you do not want to associate yourself with those who adamantly oppose Him and any reference to Him. There is an answer for you if you diligently search for it but it is a decision no one can make for you. It may seem rather trite saying this but all the answers you need are contained in the Bible. Read it for yourself. Study it and make your own determination of the relevance of it's contents. There are those who will call you a fool for believing what it says, some call it Satan's Book, and others try to pit the Old Testament against the New Testament to disprove everything. Pascal's Wager has been mentioned in many responses on here but, I take a different view point of it when determining one's belief in God. Pascal's final assumption was that one should wager on the existence of God, not against Him. Works for me!

Ok... so you believe they are unknown and I'm good. No insults.

"What happens to us when we die"? Besides the obvious cremation or burial, no one knows. Anything after that is just a belief, be it an after life or not. Neither side can prove anything.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with saying "I don't know". The problem is that theists are far too eager to file "I don't know" under "goddunit" and stop the quest to discover or learn anything new.

Science is very willing to say they don't know and continue the quest for knowledge, in fact it is part of the discipline of science. When a theory is presented, it is repeatedly tested in the effort to further validate the concept until it is proven or dis-proven.

Religion is never willing to say they don't know, merely slaming the book shut and declaring "goddunit", case closed.

True, and there are many theories, from evolving from the primordial soup as the earth cools to the point that water could exist, to being 'seeded' by extraterrestrial organisms arriving via comets or other extraterrestrial sources. Science is still seeking the answer, even though it may be solved due to time and the fact the evidence is lost.

A dirt clod, a little 'special' god spit and artificial respiration to create an creature advanced as a mammal, naw, that's really absurd. Religion declares it a slam dunk, and refuses to even question the conclusion.

These arguments from ignorance, are just that. Just because no one can disprove god exists, the only conclusion is that god exists.

Excellent point. Christians damage their belief system far more than they realize, with the distance they carry their beliefs. In short, they go way overboard. This turns people off in droves. And I'm not talking about the Westborough Baptist crowd of certified nut cases. A lot of these right to lifers go off the deep end. If you are trying to convince me about God, and all the supposed "good news" and "goodness" he comes with, you sure as hell won't do it by bombing an abortion clinic, or ripping into this countries military. Or by trying to block stem cell research. And in the process kill off the only chance some poor bastard in a wheelchair has to ever walk again. That's just plain DUMB. I'm not "pro abortion". But I'm not going to cheer on some moron who set charges of C-4, to blow up some clinic, along with some poor married woman in it, who got pregnant by way of rape.

.

If you guys want to convince people who are having trouble crossing over to your side, you won't do it with these type of silly, stupid antics. You have to accept if you yourself want to be accepted. Most people who call themselves "Christians" won't do it. They carry the hardline to the point it hurts their cause far more than it helps it. And then to make matters worse, they claim, "God instructed their actions", in some stupid, abstract way. Usually quoting some Bible passage to justify it. If you want to create more non believers, go blow up an abortion clinic. Then after you're caught, and a news crew sticks a microphone in your face, tell them, "Live by the sword, die by the sword". Yeah, that'll have em' pounding on the doors of your church.
We completely agree.

I must admit XD you are a very interesting poster... you debate both sides of an argument from your perspective...All by Yourself! After working all day it is entertaining at times.

Christians understand they are not Good.

No, you are taught that you are not good, that you were born that way, that your precious infant son or daughter is a vile sinful creature, and must spend the rest of their life repenting merely for being born, as you were.

That is just sick!

Which actually puts you well ahead of many (most?) theists, that simply can't/won't grasp the fact that atheists know that heaven/hell and the rest of the players are all fictional.
Not fictional, just not real to you.
I can't convince someone an egg exists and has parts that make the whole if they don't believe in chickens.

None of the above. Simply a clarification of the state of humans. If we were indeed good would we need laws and prisons and weapons? I think not.
