Which makes no sense at all. If a building is owned by the city and that city rents the building to any person as a residence, they may not regulate firearms in the building. This was found unconstitutional when Andrew Cuomo tried this while serving as housing secretary under Bill Clinton.

The residence clause is irrelevant in Co Springs as far as I know they don't rent out any public housing or they didn't when I was there If I remember correctly the law was passed as a direct result of an idiot named Donald Ortega openly carrying a shotgun to Co Springs city council meetings. Third time he did it they passed that ordinance and posted every city owned building in the spirings

I don't know CO law as it's been 13 years since I last lived there, but they are not banning firearms, just the open carry of firearms. I personally don't see an issue with that. You could still conceal carry if you want.

If CO law explicitly prohibits a business from banning firearms from their place of business, then I'll retract my statement. If it does not, then you have a choice to make, continue to patronize that business and leave your firearm in your car or at home, or go elsewhere.

I used to take my kids up to the zoo when I was stationed at Ft. Carson. Just getting there was a long drive and I would have been terribly PO'd to have been turned away because of having a weapon. But, then again, that was before the country was afflicted with terminal stupidity and guns were everywhere. Damn, I sure miss those days!

Not sure when you were at Carson but Colorado didn't go Shall issue until the late 90s so I'm guessing they didn't have permits when you were there.

I am guessing maybe Colorado Springs City Ordinance 9.7.103?:

9.7.103: POSSESSION OR DISPLAY:
B. It is unlawful to knowingly display a firearm or other dangerous or deadly weapon, or any object resembling same which is intended by the actor to intimidate, threaten, alarm or frighten any person.

That looks more like a "brandishing" law, not an "open carry" law.

From '70 - '73. Never applied for a license but always had my pistol or rifle with me. There didn't seem to be a problem back then and guns were everywhere and there weren't any complaints.

My point was that merely carrying is not technically "threatening", and as such this sign could be challenged if someone had the time and inclination. The idiots could have just posted the sign with no legal citation and it would have been more "legal". Now it just looks legal.
