I don't care if you are or were a Naval Lieutenant Commander, does that mean I'm supposed to kiss your ass because you served my country while you berate and belittle others on the internet? How is that honorable? If you go back to our first conversation, you're the one who took a stab at me for speaking my mind instead of expressing an opposing view with respect, you used an accusatory tone. The fact is that I believe within the next 100 years the Federal government will either attempt to confiscate guns from private citizens such as what happened in Australia or it is going to collapse from uncontrolled spending, regulation of the economy and private business, and socialization. It's just a matter of which event happens first. Does that make me paranoid?

I'm a conservative, Adam. I believe in constitutional conservatism. While I'm not particularly confident that you will understand what that means without a more detailed explanation than I care to provide you right now, it is a fact that I do consider this country an us-and-them environment. Though I'm not fond of liberalism as an ideology, "they" are not the "them" of whom I speak. As it was in 1775 when the Redcoats attempted to disarm Colonists near the bridge at Lexington Green, "we" are the free people of this continent, and "they" are the government that did, has, and always will have an insatiable appetite for our liberties. It is a universal truth that government sucks freedom from its constituencies. Doesn't matter the form of government, America is not so special that it can avoid being adherent to universal truths. I mean duh, right? No one, no country, is immune from universal truths.

When I hear words like "moderate" or "centrist" being used to describe some amorphous political ideology, I get this weird picture in my mind of who the person using such words is actually arguing with. I contend that it's not me or Navy or FirefighterChen, it's yourself. I know who the "us" is in my ideology - they are people who would never vote or demonstrate or advocate for anything that will limit my freedoms simply because they don't agree with me on politics. The "them" is quite simply, and quite literally, all the rest. It's not a Democrat/Republican thing, it's a freedom thing. Don't tell me that you love your gun rights on your "conservative" side, but that sometimes you vote for liberals who nearly universally support infringing upon them. I argue with "them" over such schizophrenia. Apparently, you argue with yourself to abide by some misguided imperative that tells you never taking sides makes you morally superior to those who have no questions about which side they're on. I, and many here on this forum, do not suffer from such schizophrenia.

When I'm talking seriously about the state of our nation with folks I generally consider part of "us," I often end those serious posts with, "Pick a side people, pick a freakin' side." That is unnecessary in this instance though, as you vehemently refuse to pick a side, which puts you outside the "us" that I recognize as my ideological brethren.

By the way, did you find any spelling errors? If you need any of the big words defined for you, all you have to do is ask.

What's the deal with all this paranoia and fear with these people in our country? I haven't ever seen any news story or White House mandate that said, "Your guns will be our guns." Think about it, if gangbangers and hoodlums can have fully automatic weapons and no one is out there taking their guns away then just because you have a CC permit doesn't mean your guns are any more of a target than someone using them for illegal means.

Calm down and protect yourself against a possible murderer or other type of assailant because honestly you stand a better chance of being a victim than having Big Brother come in and relieve you of your weaponry.

I'm assuming and hoping you're very young because it's truly sad to see someone who's been around the block a few times that can still be that truly naive. Smith & Wesson and Ruger have announced that that they'll no longer sell semi-automatic pistols in California due to gun control legislation passed at the insistence of those very same people who want to take your guns. And those people have said it flat out before on several occasions that it's what they want to do. Maybe they won't be able to come and take yours personally, but they're sure as heck trying to. And in the meantime they're doing their best to insure fewer and fewer people get new guns. Given that they have on numerous occasions passed or attempted to pass restrictions on private transfers or inheritance of firearms, it's also clear they'd like to get any current firearms out of private hands by any other means possible. Being young and unaware of these and other easily available facts would make you naive, and that's understandable. That's why you reach out for information. Being older and ignorant of these facts isn't quite as excusable, but at least you've come here where you can at least be exposed to some of the facts. Being older and choosing to ignore the facts would just make you a fool. That's why I'm hoping you're young.

A carry permit is not proof of gun ownership, nor does it link the holder to any specific gun.

I know a guy that has his NC CHP but does not own a handgun. When I took my CC class several years ago, there were at least 5 people in the class that did not own a gun, and used handguns that the range provided to qualify during the shooting aspect of the course.

I've been thinking about getting a CCW here in FL, for at least a couple of years, but I've been told to do so I would be giving up all rights to search & seizure. I've been reading the discussion, and I am ready to get my CCW, but, man we've already sacrificed so many rights already! Am I being mislead? I'm a 54 yr. old widow who is an NRA Member and I do very much know how to shoot!

Why do you think you are giving up 4A rights when you get a CC permit?

The reality is, your 4A rights are at the whim of whatever LEO you happen to be interfacing with at the moment. If he wants to stomp all over your rights, he will call for backup and proceed.

Ever heard of Hitler, or any other tyrannical self-proclaimed "protector of the people"? Those that know better than us what is good for us so we can be good little citizens? Many of the Progressive Liberal gun-grabbers have said they want our guns. For example: Jabba the Feinstein, after the "assault weapons ban" passed in the mid 90's said

They don't care about the illegal guns, because they are mainly in the inner cities and most of those people don't vote unless Obama is running for president. On this one, your choice was provided by those soldiers. Ever heard of the revolutionary war? It was probably before you were born... If you choose to mouth off and disparage those of us that served, you have lost any credibility you may have thought you had.
