I say bring on the police harassment! I can put their money to good use!
an invitation to be hassled by law enforcement
If you are living in a state that permits open carry, why would you not carry open anywhere you wanted too legally. You have a natural right to protect yourself and a firearm provides you the means to do so.Seems to me that legally carrying open while walking in town is just a show-off and an invitation to be hassled by law enforcement and certain members of the public. What purpose does it actually serve? Comments?
To answer the part of your post I put in bold ...If you are living in a state that permits open carry, why would you not carry open anywhere you wanted too legally. You have a natural right to protect yourself and a firearm provides you the means to do so.

Doing it openly provides the public with the knowledge that you can and will exercise those right willingly and without any government interference. How else is the unknowing public going to become aware of this right if examples of law abiding citizens don't lead the way. This type of advocacy has proven itself time and again.

I OC every day and enjoy the interaction it creates with law abiding citizens when it occurs (most of the time no pays me no mind, wonder what I'm doing wrong), I just can't see what all the fuss is about.
You've been on this forum for 4 years, never posted once... and then with your first post, ask the question that has been debated probably the most on these forums. What purpose does that serve? Comments?
I understand your point and it is well taken. To answer the part of your post I put in bold ...
Open carry rubs some concealed carry people the wrong way because it goes against their elitist idea that they are somehow "special" to have been given a permit to carry a gun and it annoys them to discover that (in many States) no permit is required to open carry... which means anyone can carry a gun making the permit holders just a little bit less "special".
And the most oft heard disparaging remark against open carriers is:
"Just because you can doesn't mean you should."
Alluding to if you do it might upset someone... but what that statement above really means is:
"I know you can but I don't want you to because I don't like it."
And yep... it did upset someone.... the one who didn't like it.
I apologize... I should have mentioned that I was bouncing off of the part of your post I had put in bold... not commenting on your most excellent post.I understand your point and it is well taken.

I on the other hand don't care if someone is upset when they see me open carry, I just don't care and that is whyI don't see what all the fuss is about.

I have been a non-conformist most of my life (started in high school). I'm one of those people most people don't like because I just don't worry about what other people think about me, don't care if they like me and have never worried if someone was my friend, friendships are over rated (when you really need them you can only count on yourself), he!! even your family can turn against you at times.

So yeah, what's the fuss, don't look, don't be around me, as far as I'm concerned it falls into a TFB category (too phucking bad).
Wow. It must be April's Fools day. I actually gave you a like and wholeheartedly agree with your post!
Have you ever heard of a gun store where everyone behind the counter is openly armed being robbed during business hours? Though there may well be a few scattered instances of such criminal idiocy, it is an exceedingly rare occurrence. Could it be that OC at a gun store is a deterrent to crime? I believe it is.
I concealed carried for well over 30 years before I started OC'ing. All you have to do is search on my post history to know that I want absolutely nothing to do with cops, so anyone who sees my OC'ed weapon as an invitation to come hassle me is either blind, can't read, or just stupid.
While I have no objection to talking to strangers about my OC'ed weapon as long as they're respectful, non-aggressive and/or non-insulting, the fact is I've been OC'ing regularly since last August and not a single person, cop, citizen or store manager, has said a word to me about it.
I suppose you're right in one respect. I do want attention for my OC'ed weapon....I want would-be criminals to notice that even though I'm a fairly old guy who walks with a pronounced limp and sometimes with a cane, I'm not a defenseless or willing victim. I hope he decides against trying to victimize me or mine, and I believe that OC has at least the potential to accomplish that, whereas CC has absolutely zero potential to accomplish that.
I OC for the tactical advantage and because I'm too old to allow myself to get behind the curve by having to get to my weapon after being surprised by an attacker.
Your OP sounds like you've already made up your mind about the motives of OC'ers, but you asked, so there you go.
Good luck with the giveaway contest.

The kicker is that they were violated by the government who then paid a settlement which is now taxable under IRS rules. Ironic.Link Removed
