Open carry confrontations

It works? How does it work? I know I can be very dense at times but I don't see the connection with "hit girl" and "the tool of Satan" comment. I find the Avatar totally meaningless and "the tool of Satan" simply an idiotic statement. Can you clear this up for me?

I use the avatar to poke fun at the folks that take themselves just a little too seriously (generally this group includes the “sheepdog” crowd

Followed it and read Grossman’s “Sheep, Sheepdogs and Wolves”. While it is an interesting analogy I will have to decide whether or not if I agree with your anti-sheepdog position. Care to discuss it?

Sure, in the appropriate thread, this thread is about open carry, we can discuss sheep dogs in the sheepdog thread

If you can see Chuck Norris, he can see you.

If you can't see Chuck Norris, you may be only seconds away from Death!

:D
Did Mr. Norris give you permission to use his first name? If not... be afraid... be very afraid!!!

Nevada is an open carry state. As a CCW instructor and retired police officer i don't want the open carry to go away. Having said that to open carry into businesses is just an invitation to be talked to by local law enforcement, even though it's your right it is probably no the brightest thing that can be done. Unless, of course, you are into drama and want the attention and confrontation. I have no idea why you would have your trump card visibly showing or even hinting you are carrying. Tactically it's makes no sense.

So, engaging in a completely legal activity is just an invitation to be talked to by local law enforcement? It's not all that hard to say "Am I free to go?" or "I do not consent to this interaction"
you know.

You do know that a handgun is a defensive weapon right? There is no "Tactical advantage" to responding to an attack.

And again it shows, that the majority of misinformation comes from three main sources. In no particular order: Law Enforcement, Gun Store Employees, and CCW Instructors.

Trump card...reminds me of someone else's argument about 8 months ago. He referred to a different set of cards, poker cards. Who would want to play poker with someone who is showing his cards? And guess what, he has 4 aces. Yea, there are hands out there that can beat it, but would you play with that guy? He bets ALL IN everytime, he gets Four Aces everytime...and you know it because he "makes no tactical sense"...are you going to sit at the table?

Then again...Post 1...Comes into the open carry forum to bash open carry...should we take out the spray can now? Or wait a little bit?

Exactly why is that? Let's say even if someone does call 911 about a man with a gun. Police officer shows up, sees someone doing the same thing everyone else is doing in that business (shopping, eating dinner, whatever), but they just happen to be legally carrying a firearm in a holster. Can you tell us exactly WHY we would expect to be talked to by local LEO?

even though it's your right it is probably no the brightest thing that can be done.
How about we say that police approaching a private citizen who is not doing anything that comes close to rising to the level of reasonable suspicion of commiting a crime as not the brightest thing that can be done? Have you ever open carried as a private citizen for any lenght of time? I am guessing not. Because if you did you would know that if the gun is noticed at all there is a 95% chance that any interaction due to the gun will be positive. And of the 5% of interactions I have had negative, all but one of them have been with concealed carry only snobs who could not resist the opportunity to tell me they carry a concealed firearm and that I should too.

Unless, of course, you are into drama and want the attention and confrontation.
You do understand that it is not me causing drama, attention and confrontation, right?

A concealed firearm has zero chance of deterring the criminal. If I am carrying concealed, the best that I can hope for is to play wild west gunfighter after the criminal has attacked me and hope that I can draw my firearm faster than they can react to the motion of me drawing my gun. I have no desire to play wild west gunfighter. I will give the criminal the option to see my gun and just go down the street one block or wait 5 minutes for me to leave and pick one of the 99.5% of the rest of the public who is not visibly carrying a gun and looks like every other target of opporunity.

Page 20:
Fact: 60% of convicted felons admitted that they avoided committing crimes when they knew the victim was armed. 40% of convicted felons admitted that they avoided committing crimes when they thought the victim might be armed.
Fact: Felons report that they avoid entering houses where people are at home because they fear being shot.
Fact: A survey of felons revealed the following:
• 74% of felons agreed that, "one reason burglars avoid houses when people are at home is that they fear being shot during the crime."
• 57% of felons polled agreed, "criminals are more worried about meeting an armed victim than they are about running into the police."

So, can you tell us what is not wise about taking advantage of the odds in favor of a criminal simply passing on the citizen they know is armed to select a target that does appear to have the means readily available to kill them with?
