Alright! Knock that s h i t off!!! (JK!)

Having reached my 7th decade in Apr this year, I can sure understand and relate to what you're saying....Getting old really does suck canal water, ... But then... when you consider the alternative.....

I might propose a "Geezers With Guns" thread for all of us active members in the Over The Hill Gang... Then we could swap war stories, recipes, and ways to conceal firearms in our plaid bermuda shorts, sandles with high white socks, and hi-wi-in shirts...

"Body in SC and my mind is in the Tropics"... My body IS in the tropics, and my mind is...Uhhhh, Uhhhh.... going fast!

Take care, and stay safe Brother Old Dude!

When Jack lalanne was 90, he was still more of a man than almost any college kid, in nearly every way. You LET old age get you, a LOT sooner than you have to, in most cases. you don't eat right, and do you don't exercise right, you smoke, drink, abuse prescription drugs, get too much or not enough sun, drink coffee, pop, etc, are overweight, haven't run 100 yds in 20-30 years, not even at a jog pace, etc. well OF COURSE you are stove up, etc.

And those of us who are handicapped and unable to exercise would do what? Tell you to stuff that stove somewhere? It may seem that simple to you who is not in this position. But just as teenagers who thought they knew everything and didn't realize how stupid they really were until years later, don't assume you know everything about getting older or physically limited in some way until you're actually there yourself. Very few seniors are as fortunate as Jack Lalanne was, and he didn't get that fortunate simply by virtue of exercising and eating right. Everybody should strive for that if they can, and you're absolutely correct that most don't strive like Jack did, but you're dead wrong in assuming that's all it takes.

I'm 70 and I sure liked the 50s and 60s a lot more than the world we live in today. They need to start a draft again and maybe it would make men out of the wimps we have for men today.

Exactly right on sir!

Unfortunately many people do get sick with horrible diseases like brain tumors, cancers, etc...
When someone is truly feeling ill with such a terrible disease, no amount of exercise will really help their ailing body.

My high school buddy just recently lost his 7 year old son to cancer.
No parent should ever have to go through such a sad tragedy.

"Age", and aging does indeed have a lot to do with mental attitude.... I've been living 'one day at a time' for much longer than I ever expected to. Been very close to the edge more than a few times in my life.

I'm a pretty damn good example of 'If I'd known I would have lived this long, I'd have taken better care of myself'...

But lookin' back, I can't think of anything I'd have done much differently. No regrets. I've been pretty blessed.

Not in any hurry, but always ready for whatever happens next. One thing I KNOW for sure, whatever this life is all about, this sure ain't the end of the trip!

Some say that is when the trip begins.....I'm not one to fight it...When it comes I will accept it and move on!

I am right behind you and will hit the big 70 next summer. I like the idea of "Geezers with Guns" thread. I too, like Hi-wi-in shirts "cause it makes carryin' concealed easier. Don't know about you but find it hard to figure out how I can fit an IWB outfit inside my pants in a way I can pull it out quickly from under my "overhang". Darn thing just won't get outta the way.

titon: I am over half way out of my 70s toward 80. I didn't LET old age slip up on me. It attacked me with a vengeance, long before I was ready, with heart problems, cancer, back surgery and a myriad of other things that were for "old" men. I sometimes wonder if getting old is worth all the problems that comes with it but I see my great-granddaughters and think how much I would miss them. That brings me back to reality and I take another pill and settle back feeling very lucky to be here.

Give him hell, Rhino. Won't be long before he too is getting up three times a night to pee. My wife says mentally I'm 20 years old with 34 years experience. I don't know if that's good or bad.

Several years ago I saw a lady on the evening news celebrating her 116th birthday. Thats right one hundred and sixteen years old! She was in a wheelchair but she still had all her marbles. She said because of health reasons her doctor advised her to stop drinking whiskey with her evening meal, and to quit smoking. Lets see, can ANYONE on this site give me a good reason why at her age she should quit smoking and drinking?

Holy smokes, Grunt, based on your posts I never would have guessed your age. I understand fully, brother. I had my first (of three) heart surgeries at 48 years old. Two minor heart attacks this year, one in April and one just four weeks ago. Heading for ablation surgery number four in January. I ran 5 miles per day for decades and it didn't make any difference. My heart is great but there's nerve damage in there. But I don't let it keep me down. My love for my family keeps me rolling. I live for them. The grim reaper can kiss my ass.

When I was 20, 30 looked good, 40s the 50s looks good, I think the 70s, 80s and the 90s look great now. I like to tell folks I am sleeping with a granny. Now that's funny, only not to granny. I like the idea of the draft also, most of my grandkids we have are going into the service and some in the Air Force, HA! Only way to dodge the draft would be to join the USN/USMC.

It's like a taxi, it's not just the age, it's the mileage. I had my heart surgery 2 years ago.

BC1: I guess, as the old saying goes, "I'm in pretty good shape for the shape I'm in." Through good genes, my outward appearance has faired better than my innards but I still keep trying hard every day. Sorry about your infirmities but, with your attitude toward the Grim Reaper, you will be around for a long time yet. I see some much younger than me who have just given up to their ailments and are waiting to go on out. Not me, when the Lord wants me, He will have to send down an angel to club me to death and he will be running hard then! In all seriousness, take care and we will do a lot of praying for you. OG
