You are one of the worst sources of advice on this forum. I am a RO at a local range. I see ARs go through more brass and steel than I could count. A properly maintained quality AR will go through THOUSANDS of rounds without a malfunction.
You choose a wack job with a cheap AR and proclaim it as gospel. It's more likely that you had a potato peeler with M16 stamped on the side than it is for you to know what you are saying to give good advice.
And since you didn't answer the reloading question you probably don't (I do) so do not give reloading advice.

I gave up reloading because it is way too tedious.
The only reason to reload is to create a batch of ammo that is ultra precision.
No other reason makes sense.

If you stick with Remington premium ammo then you never need to reload, unless, like I said, you need extreme precision, such as for over 700 yards.

And I checked my reloading books when i came home, if you care to back up the 5.56 reloading advise you gave out with specific details as to the differences between reloading 223 versus 5.56 I will compare your "knowledge" with what Hornady and Lyman say.

Own lots of interesting Title I and Title II Firearms and Silencers to include a SBR (Hera Arms TRIARRI/Glock21) and a superb machine gun (KRISS Vector MG) - It is nice to be able to lawfully acquire those toys as both a NFA Dealer and a NFA Manufacturer....
I personally only shoot Three calibers: 12ga -.45acp - .22lr.
K.I.S.S. Principle
12ga is for back-up J.I.C for inside the house using 4BK
.22lr is for squirrel/rodent erradication and plinking
.45acp is for knocking bad guys backwards onto their ass if they really request it.

Could depend on when he was issued it. The earlier M-16s (mostly Vietnam era) were absolute pieces of crap when it came to reliability.

All M-16's are a worthless piece of crap. Otherwise the SEALs would use them. Instead they use HK's -- German guns -- and we are now back to the origins of the sturmgewehr.
If you can't get your hands on an HK then I would suggest an M-14 or a Ruger mini-14 or mini-30.
That's advice you can bet your life on.

I agree with both you and Rhino, it was also with the switch in powder type to one that would be dirtier right before the rifle was deployed to Vietnam.
But.....
Every firearm has seen this.... the Glock 17 phase 3 malfunctions the NYPD had, the poor quality 1911s that were made during WW2, the Sig 226 slide fractures, the baretta 92 slide breakages, the Sig misquito slide breakages, the Finnish deer rifles that had the metal fatigue issues.....
I can go on for a long time.
Here is my grief, someone that does not own an AR15, shoot an AR15, or reload for an AR15 making up his own facts. Holy crap. I should give him advice about being a democrap from Kommiefornia.... like I know anything about that or he ARs...... What really frustrates me is the reloading advice..... OMG......
