CC in a "medical facility" in SC

OK, the law states that we are not allowed to carry into a hospital, doctor's office, or place where medical procedures are performed. However, one thing that just recently popped up was the ramifications of carrying into a place such as CVS where a "Minute Clinic" is located.
I can see the potential for a problem if you carried into the "clinic area" itself, but what about just entering the store? Anyone have any insight into this?
 
Actually, many pharmacies offer inoculations such as "flu" shots, etc. No matter how one wants to view this, it is a medical procedure. However, so is administering insulin in your bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, etc.

WE NEED TO STICK TOGETHER AND VOTE AS IF THE CONSTITUTION MATTERS. Please get to know your local political candidates BEFORE the election.

If WE would take the time to know our candidates before simply pulling the GOP party lever, we would have more common sense in our laws and not need to constantly worry about legalistic BS. INTENT should be the determining factor in any charge.

Ha! My grandfather, God bless him, would have voted for a pig if it was running on the Democratic ticket. I agree 100% with you, people need to ignore the party and look at the candidate and their political stance for a change. Then maybe we could get our government pointed in a better direction..... or just nuke DC and start over from scratch. </rant>

I won't mention names. But, I've seen a number of doctors bring there entire staff out to the range & even pay for them to go through CWP training. I know several doctor offices where the entire staff in CC'ing on any given day. I also know of a number of nurses that work in local hospitals that now CC; even at work. (They know bad laws when they see them & realize that SAFETY is paramount!)

Our hospitals have excellent security in place. Their officers are almost as well trained as LEOs. But, there have been, (and ARE) instances in ERs almost every night that are very dangerous for the medical staff.

Personally, I'm really glad to see this kind of thing. It encourages me to think that this is a sign of more positive things to come; relating to our elections and changing our gun laws.

They can carry in their place of employment as long as they have permission from said employer. Just wanted to clear up the fact that the un-named mentioned above aren't breaking the law if they have permission.

One reason I'm encouraged is that I have seen dozens of once AG nurses, doctors & medical personnel do a complete 180. Coming out to the range & going through classes exposes them to good, intelligent people with a "conservative" viewpoint. In addition to firearms training, many have learned about conservatism & now lean much more right than they once did.

I would look into State Law on that one. Don't look for legal advice here that you can use as a personal defense for doing wrong. In Washington State you can carry into a restaurant that serves liquor, but you cannot carry into the lounge or bar area of said establishment. It's these little nuances in the law that will get your gun taken from you and a citation issues.
 
I have read the law numerous times, but it is not clear exactly whether a Minute Clinic would fall under the definition of a medical facility or not. Like many of the laws, they are left open to interpretation just enough to bite a person in the butt in the wrong situation. I was hoping someone here had already posed the question to someone with the authority to provide a determination.

My Dentist carry's all day at work..
 
I don't think the original poster was asking about employees. If you aren't an employee, but a patient or patron, of the medical facility, it is my understanding that you don't need any type of permission to carry concealed unless there is proper signage.
 
Nope!! The only option you have to carry in a medical facility is to be an employee with permission. They fall under the same list with federal buildings, schools, etc....that don't even have to post signs.
 
What the hell is wrong with these states? My local hospital requests you check your gun at the security office but won't hassle you if you don't. There are no laws against carrying in any medical facility or pharmacy. There are two brothers at my club who are both pharmacists. They both carry OTJ over concerns that the newest form of armed robbery is starting to be for narcotics and pain killers. Rodents can't read signs and don't care about laws. They move directly for the cheese.

From the NY Times, a great article on the rise in pharamcy robberies. Suggestions that pharmacist carry a gun, install bullet-proof glass, require customers to "buzz" to get in or out and a recommendation to hire armed security. From the NY Post, another great article on the most henious murder in a Long island pharamcy I've seen in a long time. The killer had a valid gun license and a bad drug problem. oh **** i had dental work done last week whilst carrying i didn't see a sign on the door saying i couldn't carry whilst getting dental work done and completely didn't even consider it a medical facility i was more thinking it was about carrying in hospitals not a dentists office????????? was that me breaking the law??
 
If you were in SC, then I would say you could have been in hot water if anyone had noticed. The law also includes a nice grey area that states, "...or any place where medical procedures are performed."
I had the same concern while sitting in the optometrists chair getting my eyes checked Saturday.

In SC it is illegal to carry into a medical facility, but there is a bill in committee right now that would make it legal in all medical facilities and religious buildings. The bill can be found here: H. 3822
