Disney World Concealed Carry

I think the bag search is to keep you from bringing your own food and drink into the park. They make too much money on that stuff.

You are more than welcomed to pack your own lunch and bring your own drinks, so this is incorrect.

Nice place to go but I have not been since they started having "gay pride" weeks. If they value their money more than mine then let them support it.

The "Gay Pride" weeks have nothing to do with Disney. Disney doesn't sponsor them or promote them. It just happens to be a week that homosexuals decide to go there as a group. It would be like if the NRA decided they wanted to gather a large group of people to get together and go to Disney for a week.

A little update... I spent the last year working in Orlando and we bought season passes. My family probably spent 80 days or so in the parks. I pocket carried my P32 in a few times when we were planning on being in the parks after dark (usually left it in the car). Had zero issues, Although security asked my wife to empty her pockets once when she went through the "no bags" entrance. Really?!? She maybe had 2 dollars and some chapstick while I went through the bag check carrying my gun. Visible security is still a joke.

Conceal it well, pack your lunch and have fun.

p.s. Don't drop it somewhere and give us a bad name.

Wondering what your thoughts are regarding carrying into the new "Star Tours" ride now that it has a "thermal scan" at its security checkpoint? Pictures and info here: Link Removed

That's an urban legend. Disney never had a gay pride week. The homosexuals just started arranging that themselves. Disney had no part in it.

The problem was that the participants the first couple of years were extremely rude, obnoxious and in some cases downright obscene, even in front of small children at the parks. A massive number of complaints were lodged with Disney, and comments such as the ones seen here were the inevitable backlash of such behavior. Had they simply gone and enjoyed the amenities of the parks like everyone else you likely would have seen very few comments about it. Unfortunately that was not the case. As happens far too often, it only took a few bad apples to ruin it for the whole bunch, and the reputation has followed the event ever since.

Disney World is private property, just as your home or non-regulated business are, and can ban gum chewing as part of the agreement to enter the property, if they so desire. The CC laws detail which Public properties, or alcohol serving establishments if stipulated, are not permitted to allow CC. They can single out establishments that serve alcohol because it's sale is regulated by state and federal statutes.

My state is now considering CCW's inside of alcohol serving establishments, as long as the permit holder does not consume alcohol. It could get very interesting in Ohio, soon.

I recently read an old entry on a police forum (Officer.com) that Disney World does have a policy against carrying weapons in the park. Supposedly, the Orange County Sheriff's Office does have a copy of the DW policy and, from some of the posts, even off-duty LEOs are unable to carry there. If anyone is curious enough, contact the Sheriff's Office to solve the problem for yourself .

I belong to 2 Disney forums because I am a rather large fan of Disney, The DIS Discussion Forums - DISboards.com - Powered by vBulletin and Disney World - The Largest Unofficial On-Line Guide to Disney World, Walt Disney World. Questions about gay days come up on a daily basis by people just curious about what the parks are like those days. The only problems people complain about on those sites about gay days are the long lines for the attractions. Apparently the parks are overwhelmingly crowded on gay days. I have never heard people complain about the problems you have listed. Unless it was like that the first year and they were warned, as far as I can tell it is nothing like that at all. Just a lot of people in red shirts.

In what way? Most CCW states don't have such restrictions. None of the states bordering Ohio have them. What makes you think Ohio will get "interesting" all of a sudden if that restriction is lifted? It never ceases to amaze me how even gun owners can fall prey to the anti-gun propaganda.

As I understand it, such incidents were limited to the first year or two. But you know how it only takes one incident to spread news, and then even a billion good incidents to follow will seemingly never overcome it. The bad incidents always seem to resurface in the rumor mills and internet email chains.

My wife and I own three timeshare condos that border Disney World property, so we're big fans too. We have been for 30 years.

Sorry, My Bad

I guess I had the inner cities of my area of Ohio in mind, Youngstown/Warren, when I wrote that, and was considering the impact this proposed addendum to the CCW law would have on the many assaults and beating deaths that have been happening in the bars of these cities over the last two years. I'm probably wrong, of course, but am hoping that allowing concealed firearms will deter these kinds of events that have increased in number since the economy tanked. It has gotten so bad in Youngstown, for instance, that the mayor made an agreement with the Ohio State Patrol to assist the YPD in patroling the city at night.

Regardless of what you believe of me, I think for myself and have been around long enough not to "fall prey" to propaganda in politics, let alone that which affects my personal security.

I was a manager at Walt Disney World for 4 years until I got downsized last November.

Gay Days are one of the days with the fewest problems all year. We have manyh more problems on Grad Nights and the worst is on Night of Joy (which is a Christian celebration held each year). The stories I could tell would make you look at Disney in a new light.

Weapons of any kind are prohibited on Disney property. This includes the parks, the hotels and resorts, and on all the Disney owned areas. If you carry into the park and are discovered, you will receive a visit from OCSO, you will be escorted from the park, and if you raise a fuss, you will be barred from all Disney property for at least 1 year. No charges will be filed against you unless you refuse to leave. That is because state law does not recognize gun buster signage. If you refuse to leave, you will be trespassed.

Well disney can "prohibit" firearms in the parks, at least make you leave, however the way I understand it, a hotel room gives you the same rights as if you were in your home. Caselaw

A hotel or motel room is considered a private dwelling if the occupant is there legally, has paid or arranged to pay, and has not been asked to leave.  Wassmer v. State, 565 So.2d 856, 857 (Fla. 2d DCA 1990).

Really sorry to hear about that. I hope you've landed on your feet.

Very interested about those stories. Feel free to share a couple

Yeah, yeah, yeah. But "concealed means concealed". So, if they don't "discover" you are carrying, no harm, no foul. And if they do, oh well. To me, it's perfectly worth the risk. (Obviously, since I carried both a Glock 26 in a pocket holster in my shorts and a folding knife every day for a week or so while we were there last October.)

But the question I wanted to raise most recently is: what do those in favor of carrying at Disney think of the new "thermal body scans" at the entrance to the newly revamped Star Tours ride? It looks to me like it's more of a "toy" for kids than a real security feature, but, it does make me wonder about what else Disney has there that they may not be showing you, like thermal cameras where the monitors are in some security office, not facing you as you enter a line. Thoughts?

When i get home tonight, i'll post a few Disney stories in the "off topic" threads.

You can count on being on camera pretty much anywhere at Disney. Especially in the dark areas. They use low light cameras there.

If you think it will make things better then you haven't fallen prey to the propaganda that I thought you had and I owe you an apology. The media in Ohio right now has everyone believing that gun owners are going to flock to all the bars, get drunk and have shootouts. Most of us are used to seeing such ridiculous tripe from the media, but even some gun owners in Ohio have been falling for this sensationalist manure, and I mistakenly interpreted your post as an indication that you were in that group. However, your reply indicates that you aren't anticipating the crisis that the media is predicting, but rather hoping for a deterrent effect that a change in the law might bring. Please accept my apology.

Now back to the thread topic.....

No need to apologize, Rhino. The media and politicians in our area didn't say much, if anything, about this because although I'm in a heavily Democrat party region, most people here are moderate in their thinking and exercise their 2nd amendment rights to carry a firearm. I'm looking forward to a sudden drop in bar assaults, beatings and shootings with the passage of this new amendment to the CCW law.
