Yet another mob attack in Memphis

Surveillance video showed a mob of rowdy high school students beating a man at a Crosstown gas station. Police said a large group of Northwest Prep Academy students swarmed a BP gas station on Poplar and Cleveland. Witnesses told WREG the group was out of control.

“”Oh yeah. I was freaked out,” Mary Fuller said. Fuller was scared and did not feel safe walking to her car. “As I was going out the door this other gentleman walked out and hollered at them and asked them to be quiet and get off of the parking lot,” Fuller said. “As we get to the car they are in the parking lot throwing up gang signs and putting up a ruckus,” Orrden Williams, Jr. said.

Williams, the man seen in the video being attacked, told WREG one of the kids “sucker punched” him. After Williams had been punched in the head, dozens of teenagers swarmed the gas station. Customers inside of the store jumped, and workers held the door shut as the teens rushed the entryway. Williams made a mad dash for the car where, he said, one teen threw punches just inches away from his baby’s head. Williams said he nearly used a gun in his car. “It would have been a couple of ‘mommas’ who’s child wouldn’t have come home — justifiably not coming home,” Williams said. Police said the baby was not hurt, but Williams was reportedly bruised all over his upper body.

Customers told WREG they were glad the fight was caught on video, and that police are aware of it. Williams asked, “What’s next Dorsey Hopson and Toney Armstrong? Somebody’s going to die.” Fuller said she is glad Williams stepped in to help her, but no one deserves what happened in the video. “Thank you very much and I’m sorry it happened to him. It’s terrible,” Fuller said. Police claimed the teenagers also damaged William’s car. Williams wants the children involved in the beating cited and taken to juvenile court.

A gun in the car is useless when you are attacked outside and you can't get to it. Carry on your body!

Also, this attack was just a little over 2 miles away from Beale Street, the popular tourist attraction, similar to the previous mob attack in October.

Sheet, I think I stumbled upon a new Entrepreneur idea to combat the Left grabbing gun haters. We should just send them pre-filled out a toe tags. (sounds nice but would probably elicit some type of assault charge or intimidation , especially through the mail)

Trust me them under aged kids are protected until their of age.
Don't matter if they are trying to kill you,and even if they do kill you they will not get anything done to them.

So Barrack, Trayvon, Michael, and their homies are just out walking peaceably in the hood looking for soda and free cigars, and some dude tries to deny them of their rights? The Justice Department needs to investigate this. The man and his conniving 3 month old need to go to jail, and the victims should be compensated for any injuries to their fists.

While this may be your personal cynical comment on an Internet forum today, in real life, YOU will have to choose how to respond if you ever face such a situation. When you are physically beaten by 10 teenagers out of a total attacking mob of 30 teenagers, you certainly have a reasonable belief that there is an imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury (TCA 39-11-611 - Use of deadly force by private citizen).

There was also another mob attack in September last year not far away from the other two:

A 25-year-old man said he was attacked by the group as he walked to his car. Two Kroger employees, 17 and 18, ran to help the man. Both were repeatedly hit in the head and face. The teens told police pumpkins “in excess of 20 pounds” were thrown on their heads while they were on the ground. Police say both teens lost consciousness. Eventually, a security guard stopped the attack.

While I agree that, especially in a liberal city like Memphis, these teenagers rarely are identified, cited, and taken to juvenile court, a case of self defense using lethal force against such a mob is an entirely different matter. It would be justified and you would not get sent to prison.

I've been staying this for many, many years.

There are several threads on this forum about vehicle carry and I always respond and say it's a bad idea.

Did the victim think that was true? Was that theory run by the victim on the Hannity show, and did he have an opportunity to comment either way about it?

Unless he is willing to consider that possibility, I have to dismiss the theory out of hand. Doesn't look that way to me at all.

He was attacked after saying something to the crowd about quieting down. To a rational person, that certainly would not qualify as "provocation," but that crowd does not appear in any way to have rationally evaluated the scene and come to a determination that the victim was a threat to the woman. The guy told 'em to quiet down, and they beat him down for it. The End.

Most people may not realize the teens go to this particular school because they've been in trouble at their regular schools. Most of these "kids" (some 18,19 or older), were sent there by a judge to avoid jail time. There is a history of drugs, violence, intimidation, assault, vandalism, burglary and crime in general surround this "school". Many area residents have been victims of such crimes and are reluctant to come forward due to the threat of retaliation.

Wow, I just watched the interview on Hannity. Orrden Williams Jr. (the victim) had his baby son in the car while being attacked. According to his own statement, as a former football player, he knows what it means to be really hurt and that the teens didn't do much "damage" to him. Good for him. I would have defended myself with my firearm.

As for your comment about the kids thought HE was up to no good. Yeah, right. This group singled him out, because he was the only one that was not intimidated. As tcox4freedom pointed out, these "kids" come from one specific special school that has served as the dumping ground for problem "kids" with criminal behavior.

As for the victim dancing around the issue of having a gun, who knows what's up with that. Note that, thanks to a rather recent change in the law, TN allows having any type and number of loaded firearms open or concealed within a privately owned vehicle without a permit (TCA 39-17-1307 as of July 1, 2014). May be he doesn't have a TN Handgun Carry Permit and does not know that he doesn't need it for car carry.

We have one of those kind of "schools" just down from the shop. The 'students" there will walk right out in front of a car doing 30 MPH and dare you to hit them even though they are jaywalking. They can't ride a school bus to school as most of them got in trouble on a bus to start with.
