Recently flew to Arizona, and took a pistol in checked luggage. At airport, went through usual show and tell at ticket counter with TSA agent who inspected pistol which was disassembled in proper hard-sided case. Agent asked me if it was loaded. Says a lot about their training!

They have to ask that question. Some people may have different interpretations of what disassembled means, and they have to make sure you declared that the gun is unloaded.

I'm still gonna laugh anyway.

I'm sure they are required to, of course.

Total morons.

Which not only confirms what morons they are, but also shows what cretin control freaks their handlers are. Do you believe there is a training process for the TSA people who do these so called inspections or do they hire them, give them a badge, a hobby cop uniform, and just throw them out there? Probably the latter when it comes to firearms. However, either supports my comment.

I laugh every time I hear about that same stupidity between civilians and police asking if they are armed.

The rules apparently are followed differently at different airports. The two times I've flown with declared handguns (both quite recently), I was not asked either time to show the gun. I simply had to answer "yes" to the question whether the gun was unloaded. Sign and slip the declaration card into the luggage, lock it, and send it through a scanner for TSA inspection. Although it took some added time, it really wasn't a major hassle. (But I haven't flow out of the east or left coast either). :-)

I, too, have flown a number of times without hassle. The airport in question was Boston, which may have more stringent security due to its 9/11 experiences. Have to say the TSA agent was an ESL hire, so there may have been a communication problem . . . but not on my part!
