My 10 month old has the strength in his hands to squeeze and pull my fingers apart hard enough I think he would be able actuated a trigger. I don't think many two year olds could do it one handed, I would assume he used both hands.

OK, I'll take your word for it. It's been a real long time since I've had a 2 year old.

I just don't think it matters what condition the gun was in. Or how it was hidden in the purse. Or how many two-year-olds can pull a trigger. Or how many gun classes the woman completed. What matters is that the woman left her child unattended in a shopping cart with a deadly weapon. Shooting and firearms give damn few second chances, so let's all keep our heads in the game.

If the gun was in condition 3, this woman would still be alive to find her kid playing with her gun in the shopping cart. Heck, if you aren't going to carry the gun in a proper holster on your body, you might as well store your gun in condition 3 in your purse or fanny pack anyway because by the time you dig the gun out of that fanny pack or purse, having to rack the slide to load it ain't going to make much difference anyway.

Condition 1 readily accessible in a prpper holster is the only way for me.

You guys rack your own slides, or have your parents do it for you? It would seem you guys would rather do a deal with the devil than rack your own slides.

Might make a good start up business franchise. Drive thru gun slide racking. Gun slide racked, while you wait (.5 seconds) $4.95.

RIP the neglegent gun owner and her family.

Banking today, i told the banker i do CC permit training for my state. The lady banker said a few months ago, someone was in her bank, and she spotted a gun hidden under his shirt. Buttons were pushed, people were notified in the bank, and someone recognized him as a regular customer. A bank VP aproached the customer and asked him if he had a gun? The guy said he forgot he was carrying and he had a CHP. He was warned and escorted out. No police were called because they knew him.

Two major fails here.

No guns in a bank with a CHP.

Printing. If he was obeying the law, you still do not want to print or peek.

Cool story. I went into my bank yesterday open carrying, my area doesn't hate guns like your area does.

In Michigan we can OC in a pfz with a cpl, unless the pfz is private property that enforces their own gun free policy.

It seems to me that pistols with only a trigger safety, as the striker fired guns are, pose this problem the most. I do not doubt that the same kind of incident can happen with a thumb safety. Some types are easier than others to defeat, like the standard 1911A1 type safety.

There is no easy answer. It poses multiple questions, from having a weapon that is not secured (separated from your body and attention), to ease of firing.

OC would have solved this issue, but I would have fixed it with CC, which is what she used to do, only days before. A present dedicated to a stupid shopping ritual, got this woman reduced to room temperature. It was one straw too many for her.

Really? I have never seen anyone open carrying in the Tri-Cities or down here in Oregon except for cowboy dress-up. Recently here in Oregon a lady was open carrying at the drive up bank window when she found out her balance was not what is should be. She went in with her kid and was told that they assessed some BS bank fee on her account and tough luck. Voices were raised, a teller pushed the silent alarm button and made a false "brandishing" call to the police. Cops swarmed with shotguns out. After 90 minutes of reviewing security tapes that showed she never had her hand near her pistol, she was released.

Way back in the late 1990's some old ladies at the Denny's called the police on our newly elected (and apparently unrecognized) Sheriff because he was open carrying in plain clothes and did not have a badge on his belt.

I am glad that we have open carry, so cops are not just waiting to pounce if you print by accident, for 2A rallies or emergency situations where someone is waiting for their CPL.

Sorry for going off on a tangent.

Yes, I open carry into my bank without anyone blinking an eye. I usually see at least one open carrier around town besides me during the summer if I'm out and about that day... The winter coats come on the rest of the seasons. I know of at least a dozen who regularly open carry in the tri cities. I don't know anyone who open carriers in Hermiston area.

No gun allowed in a bank? In Nebraska? Is that the law? Even liberal NY has no such law.

Banks are among the eleven gun free zones in Michigan, unless you have a cpl, then you can openly carry as long as the bank doesn't enforce their own pfz policy.

That is the law in Nebraska - we wouldn't want law abiding gun owners to interfere in bank robberies now, would we?
I once saw a no guns sign on the door at HSBC bank. I turned and called out to my wife, "honey, we'll have to rob them at the drive-up window. They don't allow guns." She cracked-up. Since signs carry no weight of law in NY I did as I pleased. I changed banks immediately after I saw the sign. HSBC has since closed and left the area. I currently use RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland) who has no anti-gun policy. Sign on the door says no hoodies, no sunglasses, no hats. Apparently guns are welcome.

NY has one gun-free zone. Schools and public libraries which are both regulated by state education law.

You're right, NavyLCDR. My poorly made point was that all elements of this situation seem, to me at least, to be subordinate to the fact that the woman put her child and the gun together, unsupervised. Lord knows she paid the ultimate price for this mistake, but it was a monumental mistake.

Must have been automatic with round in chamber. Most toddlers don't have finger strength to fire da revolver. Don't need to have an auto with chambered round anywhere near a toddler. Sad mistake.

Banks post signs saying no guns or head coverings like stocking caps over face. Does that have the weight of law? ?

What does have the weight of law, is the CC laws say no CC in banks, sporting events, elections, church, bars, state buildings.

So maybe if you wanted to challenge the no gun signs for OC, but i do not wish to spend my money on greedy lawyers.
