The Open Carry Argument

This will not be popular for people who believe in open carry, but I think the only persons who should be open carrying a firearm are law enforcement, and licensed security officers. When anyone else carries a firearm openly I strongly suspect there has been no background check done on them. Carrying a firearm openly, outside of being in uniform or displaying a badge, scares people. I see no reason to carry a firearm openly unless you fall into one of the groups I mentioned. If you want to carry a firearm, get a concealed carry permit. When I see people in plain clothes, carrying a firearm openly, I have no idea who they are. Neither does the public, which explains why it scares them. I would prefer if a citizen wants to carry a firearm, that they get a concealed carry permit.

I have a Concealed Pistol License, and I Open Carry regularly. I'm not LE, Security, or anything else. Part of the reason I as well as many others OC in my state, is to try to educate the general public and acclimate them to seeing open carry as non-threatening. It is difficult for many Public officials to demonstrate respect for the Constitution of the United States of America when its commander and chief is unable to respect it.
Next will come the military.

Long Live The Militia, Long Live the Republic.

I must disagree. The American "citizens" who re-elected the pseudo-facists into power a second time have already fallen. You won't find many in the military who voted for them the first time, and even fewer the second time.

Start asking around in the military as I have.
The unfortunate reality is that a very large number of our military personnel voted for the current president.

You are only counting the citizens who actually voted.

There is no reason to ASSUME they didn't go through a background check simply because their OC'ing. Even if they purchased private, that's no reason to ASSUME their doing something wrong!

No, it doesn't scare "people" it scares uneducated sheep. Which is no better than your assumption that people are up to no good based on their preferred carry method.

Are you under the impression your entitled to know who everybody is or what their up to? Your entitled to your PREFERENCE of how people should carry, but so are they. Your obviously one of the type's that harass people for simply exercising a right, which is sad. I always assume most cops are alright and just doing their job, but then read crap like this, no wonder so many law abiding citizens hate cops and feel the need to carry video camera's around.

Funny out of all the news stories I have read/seen, all the felons had it concealed. Most felons I don't think even bother with holsters at all.

Good points. I share most of your views. Open carry causes all sorts of people to over react, while concealed carry doesn't have any deterrent value. A quandary, to be sure. I still am struggling with it. But one thing is clear: the right to do so shall not be infringed.

Open carry causes all sorts of people to over react? it does? Maybe my holster or firearm is defective, it doesn't cause anyone to over react.

Hi,I'm new here but not new to seeing people open carry. When my son turns 18 I can gift his sidearm and he can legally open carry( in the Common Wealth of Virginia). I myself will also open carry and have a concealed weapon on top of that. I have talked with a couple of people who already do the same as well. I personally am willing to deal with the possible legal hassles that will arise from an incident of personal protection as opposed to being helpless to defend my loved ones. I am willing to do whatever it takes to ensure their safety!

And now their pay and benefits are quickly decreasing, not to mention the entire size of the military.

I wouldn't need to start asking, since I'm around them on a daily basis. Since retiring from the military I've been working an almost non stop string of DOD contracts. I doubt NavyLCDR would need to start asking either. Guys like us don't typically stray far from our military roots, so we're well aware of the political sentiment in the military. I don't know who you asked or where you asked, but NavyLCDR is absolutely correct. The military is heavily conservative, and the majority would not be Obama supporters. It may be true however that he garnered the highest percentage of the military vote for a liberal in quite some time. Even many military members fell prey to the ill advised theory of voting for someone simply due to the color of their skin. It wouldn't have been the majority of the overall military vote though. The military hasn't become that liberal, at least not yet.

So true. That's why the liberal states try so hard not to count their vote.

Yea right, that's why the #1 best seller at the Post Exchange is now SOAP on a ROPE.
Where did you obtain this information? Did AAFES post a sign saying it was a bestseller? I would be willing to bet, based on my 30+ years of experience with AAFES, that they bought too many books of that title and are trying to fabricate a buzz about it.

I know some officers voted Obama, I even found my boss's name on a contributor list published on the internet. You wouldn't know talking to her that she supported the Kenyan, but she did in secret.

He didn't He's just mouthing off, partly out of ignorance and partly out of frustration over the new gay tolerant policies in our military. I can sympathize with his feelings over the latter, but I don't disparage our military over it. They weren't the ones responsible for those policies. They just have to live with them. But that isn't the topic here. Come to think of it, how liberal the military has become isn't exactly on topic either. We've strayed.

Books of that title?? :haha:

Because it's one of the best threads on OC that you can find.

As opposed to the 452,178,544,564 threads that have been posted on this topic since 2009?
What are your views on admitting to a LEO you're carrying if it's a non-notify state?
What's the best caliber to use? Is .380 too small?
How do you feel about Obama?
