The new Glock G42

Wow...great price...and the size HS.....I'm not much for carrying a .380 but would be a nice one for the wife so I can my 938 back. Sweet....definitely a range report is warranted and eagerly awaited.

Congrats.

Given a good range report, I am expecting my wife will have one of these as soon as she sees one.

Finally... a range report.

I put 10 magazines with 6 rounds each down range today. I shot 10 hollow points and 50 FMJ's.

Every shot fired well and no misfires. The trigger pull is like every other Glock I have shot. The recoil is light to non-existent, which surprised me being a polymer frame even for .380.

Only one thing happened that made me question. One time, after the last round fired, the slide did not hold back. I'm sure I anticipated it and limp wristed it a little. Other than that, it shot where I pointed it and it's a great little gun.

You got the newest Glock the week it comes out and I've been waiting for six months for a 30 S which was introduced at last year's SHOT show! Congratulations. I'm envious. I already have the Crossbreed and 100 RD. of ammo for it, but no pistol yet.

found my 30S 4 months ago at Vance in Col, OH - they got in like 50 of em! blue label price was great. other than not as accurate at my 21, and hurting my hand after 50 rounds (can shoot 21 all day no limit), it is 100% EDC here in owb holster and FANTASTIC with xs big dots & Cominolli 1911 style safety!

I have had no reason to change out to bodygaurd 380 yet & suspect I never will again! stick with 30S and leave pop gun to others.

Thanks for the update... All in all sounds like a good range trip and that the G42 ran fairly well. There's a video of a review of it by Hickok 45 on you tube where he had issues with the slide locking back after the first round using buffalo bore ammunition. Not sure what all that might be about. I Sydney it will not be long before we have one of these - gun show next month.

Specifically, I was using Hornady Critical Defense 90gr FTX hollow points (1000 fps) and Herter's Select Grade FMJ 95 gr. (955 fps) which would have apx 3% less energy than the Hornady rounds.

Several people asked and I apologize for not answering timely. The MSRP for the G42 is $459. I got mine for $319 because they were offered to Glock LE dealers first with a blue label. Glock has three different labeling systems. Red label is for anyone, White label is for NY/CA compliant firearms, and blue label is for anyone that has LE ties.

So I didn't get a "dealer's" price per se, but I think I got as close as it gets. I would expect to see these probably sell on average for about $400.

I was able to handle a G42 in a gun shop. It was the only one they had; it was a display model. I thought it felt good in my hand and would have loved to shoot it. I am not happy that it came out in 380 caliber though, I would prefer a 9mm. And will wait to see if they come out with a single stack 9 in the near future. I currently own a G19 and like the gun, the quick shooting characteristics and short trigger. I carry the G19 occasionally but I end up carrying my wife's Ruger LC9 (9mm) and love the carry size and quality build. I don't like the trigger pull of the LC9 it is very long. My wife likes the gun and both of us with practice have gotten used to it. I am switching to the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield in (9mm) as soon as I take it to the range and verify it works okay and get used to it. I would have preferred an XDS in (9mm) but it was more expensive than the Shield. But I do like the way the Shield feels in my hand compared to the xds9. The Shield will become my every day carry now and my wife will carry the LC9.

Have you gotten you 30S yet? I know where 30SF's are available. $547.00 - Glock G30SF Short Frame Sub Compact Pistol - 45 ACP - 3.78" Barrel - Black Slide - Black Polymer Frame / Grip - Fixed Sights - 23.99 oz - (2) 10+1 Round Mags - PF3050201

I'll wait for the G43. That's the G42 frame in 9MM.

They'll have to do something in a different frame then. The mag well won't support a 9mm round.

In the .380's for sale in Europe the magazines are manufactured deeper to accommodate the 9mm mag well frame.

This is a magazine from a Glock 25:

The magazine on the G42, does not have the extra material that would be necessary if the G42 frame would be the frame for a 9mm. If Glock does come up with a single stack 9mm they will need to design a new frame.

The .380 is also known as a 9mm Kurtz for short. The 9mm and 380 differ only in length by a couple of mm, not in diameter.

Probably totally possible.

While it looks great and apparently shoots well, I'll keep my XD-S .45. I shoot it better than my full-size XDm 9mm. Looks like more practice is in order with the big framed 9.

I'm going to show one of these to my wife, when they become widely available, to see if she may rack the slide. She has a wheel gun for home defense, and cannot rack all the semis she's tried, because of a shattered arm from a car accident. Instructors tried to help her, but nogo.

I wanted her to get the SP101, as it's heavier and would have less recoil than her Taurus 85 ultralite, but she felt it was too heavy for her. She may shoot the 85 fairly accurately at snubbie distances, but the felt recoil of the light .38 bothers her a bit, even with Hogue grips installed.

She picked this sidearm after renting and firing many wheelguns. I was pointing her to the hidden hammer S&W Guardian, for its fantastic trigger, but none were available for many months, even rentals. Its price point rubbed her the wrong way too, because of the laser. It too, would be a felt recoil sidearm, for her. Had she been able to shoot the SP 101 in at least the 3 inch barrel, she would have put-up with the extra weight, I think. She doesn't carry.

I stayed out of the whole process, except pointing-out some ideas she might like.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see if they think it's worth the work to build.
I don't really need one, but variety is nice.

There's plenty of room in the magwell of the G42. Wolf is just plain wrong. The 9mm cartridge is barely larger than the .380 and the G42 is a really big pocket gun. Its size is on par with the pocket 9 mm pistols.

Got my glock 42 the week of shot show. Absolutely love it. It's a sweet shooter and it will go all day. Much more fun than my lcp. Shot a bit left so I had the rear sight bumped a bit now it drives nails at 10 to 15 yards. It will stay in the collection!

I've had the opportunity to shoot the G42 many more times since the first range report.

I've yet to duplicate the slide not locking back. I'm assuming I limp wristed that first time. It's a great little gun that shoot straight and despite what others have said very easy to conceal.

I got my Glock 42, Sunday. I traded in my Walther PK380 and got the Glock 42 for 200. The list price was 400.00, got 200.00 for the Walther, yes I'm happy to have my First Glock 42. It fire's great, and I'm using it as my conceal carry.
