The 1960's. Do You Have a Favorite Song?

Ten years After (Alvin Lee)
.
I like the old blues, as far back as 1920's.
Son House
Muddy Waters
Blind Boy Fuller
Robert Johnson
Blind Lemon Jefferson
Howlin' Wolf

I'm probably in a small minority, but I became a Saved/Christian/Believer a few years ago, and seldom listen to rock, oldies or country much any more. I got into Contemporary Christian music, playing and singing, and don't feel the need for anything else now. I have it on my truck, and radio next to my computer. I find it very soothing, comforting, and inspirational. Loves to get my 'Jesus Music" on. Want to get me some Toby Mac tunes.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida...Iron Butterfly. 1968.

I got to play the drum solo on my Ludwig, blue see-through plexiglass drum set during a half-time show at one of my high school games!

Yes, the organist had his upbringing playing in church...it shows.

Good for you

I'm 41 yrs old and know more songs form the 60s than I do from today.

My latest favorite

Happy Together, Turtles 1967, but with a slight "twist"...a cover

During that time period all I ever heard was Merle Haggard's Okie from Muscogee and Soul Man by every artist around. Everywhere I went those seemed to be the most poular songs in the military. Didn't take long for me to swear off music!

Sooooo many here that I agree with, and more I could add. I also agree that rap stinks, but I do like some of today's music. In fact, I have music from the big band sound of the 40s all the way to some of the songs popular today. Most of my stuff is probably from the 70s and 80s, but I have a ton of it from the 60s, and from the 50s thanks mostly to my mother. Every time I hear Tom Cruise in Top Gun talking about his mother having him play Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay, I think of my mother and the music she used to listen to. She loved Otis Redding, Louis Armstrong, The Supremes and Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass to name a few. I have a lot of that music in my collection today. I still enjoy listening to it and it brings a smile to my lips when I remember how she used to love listening to it too. I have no idea where my fascination with big band music came from. But as to the 60s, there really are too many songs for me to list. California Dreamin, Brown Eyed Girl, Alice's Restaurant Massacree that always made me laugh, Brown Sugar, Crimson and Clover, Crystal Blue Persuasion, Raindrops Keep Fallin On My Head, Down on the Corner, Gimme Shelter, Gimme Some Lovin, Heartbreaker, Here Comes The Sun, House of the Rising Sun (of course), Satisfaction, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, Let It Be, Louie Louie, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Mrs Robinson, My Cherie Amour, My Sweet Lord, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, Ode To Billie Joe, Pinball Wizard, Stand By Me, Strawberry Fields Forever, Sunshine Of Your Love, Susie-Q, What Is Life, A Whiter Shade Of Pale, Wild Thing, You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin', and the song that always makes me think of my wife, Can't Take My Eyes Off You.

Favorite song? Nope, I could never pick just one.

and the song that always makes me think of my wife, Can't Take My Eyes Off You.

Thank you, Rhino. A lot of great stuff on your list! This one is so good we'll play it. From 1967. The wonderful Frankie Valli.

I saw these guys perform this live in philly at the anniversary show of electric factory concerts back in the 80's. It was actually called "in the garden of eden". I heard an interview on wmmr or wysp, can't remember, prior to the show. The member who wrote it took like 3 days to do so, during which time he had no sleep, nothing to eat, and nothing to drink but some cheap apple wine. When a fellow member (who was giving the interview I was listening to) came by, he asked the writer what the name of the song was. The writer said "in the garden of eden" but was so drunk he slurred "in the gadda da vida".
Great song. Awesome live

Ever since this thread started I have tried to think of one song that I liked the best but I have so many that I have been unable to just pick just one. I like many different types of music so it is impossible to pick just one. I sort of like instrumental music over vocal at times. In instrumental I like "Stranger on a Shore" by Acker Bilk, "Canadian Sunset" by Hugo Winterhalter, "Rebel Rouser" by Duane Eddy and "Love is Blue" by Paul Mauriat. I really liked The Ventures but I could not just pick just one song that I liked the best!!

In vocals "Lake Shore Drive" by Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah, "In Dreams" by Roy Orbison, "Sukiaki" by Kuy Sakamoto, "Mecca" by Gene Pitney and I could always go "Walking After Midnight" with Patsy Cline to name a few. I would have to say that Roy Orbison and Gene Pitney were my favorites.

I also liked goofy songs like "Chug-A-Lug" by Roger Miller and "Purple People Eater" by Sheb Wooley.

These are some of my favorites and I did keep it short. If some have never heard these songs I would encourage you to give them a try. With todays tech it is easy to hear song now.

I like all kinds of music. Classical, Rock & Roll, Blues, Jazz, Country & Western and even some Blue Grass (Instrumental not Vocal) and New Age such as Enya.

I believe if we listed all our favorites it would look like we were writing our Thesis instead of just posting. Then Luke would ban us. (Just a playful poke Luke!)

I have close to 400 songs on Spotify. Some artists I like 95-99% of their music and others only 1or 2 songs at most. I was never into the British Invasion or Hard Rock. I also like some of today's music. It is hard to find a station that plays what I like but I try to find the "Oldies" and "Lite" stations.
