Single Stack vs Double Stack for CCW

Both my guns are single stack, one holds 10+1 the pocket gun holds 7+1 and I would not get rid of either. Both are thin and easy to conceal, accurate and dependable. Carry an extra mag and you have more than enough rounds. :dance3:

My primary is a Glock 19 IWB at 4:00 in a Sticky Holster. I put it on first thing in the morning and it stays with me comfortably all day.
A single stack may conceal better, but for me it is about what I shoot the best, so it is the 19 or my Glock 22 but I haven't picked up a holster I like for it yet.

The fact people are trying to insult bofh over his reply to my post is ridiculous. I appreciate you giving a well thought out answer, and I did not see it as a "fanboy" post. And I agree, if someone isn't going to reply on this forum with something constructive, move on.

I moved from a Single stack XDS 45 to a Double stack XD 45 Sub Compact Mod 2. 9+1 rounds in gun and 13 rounds in one spare magazine. I front pocket carry. If I need a Single stack I now use either a XDS 9 with 7+1 in gun and a 9 round spare, OR a Ruger LC9s Pro wit 7+1 and two spare 7's. The Pro edition takes the external safety away, the regular LC9s has the external safety and is about $125 cheaper than a Glock 43 with one more round capacity. The XDS 9 is close in price and size to a Glock 43 and where the 43 has the trigger only safety The XDS 9 has a grip and trigger safety (Both supposedly have to be depressed simultaneously for the gun to fire) it also carried one more round naturally and has a extended magazine of 8 Rounds and another of 9 Rounds (I don't know if you get both or just one) mine is a earlier edition offered before the 8 round magazine was available. I like both the XDS 9 and the Ruger. I tend to carry the Ruger when needed more than the XDS 9 as the Springfield now sports a Crimson Trace laser that my wife is fond of.

If you want a external safety I would closely look at a regular Ruger LC9s, rugged, reliable, accurate. It does have more recoil as do all small 9's. XDS seems a little softer recoil.

I alternate three pistols,a Glock42, Taurus.38 SPL+P,& M&P 40 Shield. I'm getting ready to buy IWB leather holsters for all three.

All of my auto pistols, regardless of carry method or caliber, are single stack. High round capacity is good if you plan on missing a lot.

Studies have learned that most CC incidents rarely involve more than 2 shots, so I don't see much of an issues with a single stack weapon.

Actually, most defensive gun uses involve no shots fired, so should you carry an unloaded weapon?

Well I moved from a Single stack to a Double Stack as I see the way the terrorist threat seems to be escalating. More teams now than before. I don't want to duke it out anyone, be it fists, knives, or guns, but If I have to I want to give it my all or I may not have anything left to give.

I look at it this way, the gun that ruled for many years was the old six-shooter. It was cumbersome and held six rounds. Therefore, my two single stack semi-autos are fine. One holds 10+1 and my pocket gun even holds 7+1 which is more than the six shooter. If you live somewhere where you believe any shooting you get into will take more than a few rounds you better move to another location. :dirol:

James Yeager | Stupid Internet Gun Stuff - Number of Rounds Needed in a Fight

I'm no hero who stands armed and ready to have a gunfight with a group of bad guys in a movie theatre, church, bank.. The LEOS job is to confront those felons,

I'm an older gent and have learned not to confront a lunatic looking for a fight, and don't believe in the Zombie Apocalypse. If I ever have to draw my weapon, it will be at very close range, certainly less than 21 feet.

I carry a single-stack IWB or a pocket gun, or both on rare occasions. My favorite IWB weapon is my Sig P938 and my favorite pocket gun is my Seecamp .32. Ludwig Wilhelm Seecamp didn't put sights on his beautiful little pistols because, as he said, "Stick it in his face and pull the trigger, don't need sights."

That being said, I just bought a M&P 9C compact 12+1 double-stack, which I might carry when I have to walk around downtown New Orleans.

  • LEOs usually show up after a situation is over. By then, you or someone else may be dead because you didn't wanted to be a hero. Can you live with that? I know I can't.
  • If there is no need to engage or if the risks outweigh the benefits, then don't. Sometimes doing nothing is better than doing something. However, this is situation dependent.
  • Never confront anyone looking for a fight, ever. By definition, there is no need to engage. If that person becomes an actual threat, then the situation changed.
  • Most gunfights happen up close, except when they don't. Counting on your opponent being close is setting yourself up for failure. What are you going to do if an active shooter shows up at a movie theater or church?

I guess I need to post more James Yeager videos to educate people.

  • HA! Yeah, because everybody knows he's the only video gun guy who ever had a good idea.... And quite a few bad ones too. LOL

  • I do follow multiple YouTube channels, such as Rob Pincus / PDN and Reid Henrichs. James just seems to be on point on a lot of things, so I post a lot of his videos.

Yeah, I agree, he is on point for most things. I was just foolin' with ya, thus the "HA!" and the "LOL." No one can please all the people all the time, and a few times the unpleasing things (to me) about Yeager have been particularly unpleasing. Your postings have helped me get over it for the most part though, so no biggie. Just kiddin' around here.

Because I carry doesn't mean I have to train for active duty. I did that over 50 years ago. Marines and Special Ops run toward the guns, us guys in our 70's will rather wait for the right moment to put a hole or three in the attacker. While you have your adrenalin all wired looking for a gunfight, I'm calmly determining when and how to kill the bastard.

Nothing you posted contradicts my post.

You do understand that if you do "wait for the right moment to put a hole or three in the attacker" that you are the hero, right? However, you posted "I'm no hero who stands armed and ready to have a gunfight with a group of bad guys in a movie theatre, church, bank.. The LEOS job is to confront those felons,". Your two posts seem to contradict each other. You are free to enlighten me with logical arguments.

You don't know me. Don't make stuff up about me. Don't post personal attacks. That's the easiest way to get banned. Engage in a civil discourse.
