As myself and many others have asserted, it comes down to what you train to do and your personal comfort level. If you are not comfortable with one in the chamber, don't carry with one in the chamber. Because if you are not comfortable with a round chambered and you feel you are
"forced" to by some group opinion, you will probably stop carrying all together. And to my mind that is a more serious risk.
BUT if you decide to carry without a round chambered, get snap caps or dummy cartridges and TRAIN TRAIN TRAIN for whatever model of carry you prefer, and train two hands, one hand only, and non-dominant hand only (you should train to that regardless of if you carry chambered or not, if you have to rack, you HAVE TO RACK.
