NYS Assembly Passes Bill to Require Microstamping of Semiautomatic Handguns

Let me make this perfectly clear... ain't gonna happen. DOA in the senate.

Agreed, and I'm fairly sure Sheldon Silver believes that too (based on some of his recent comments regarding the NYS Senate).

However, it's a shame something like this could even make it that far. People really need to remember what a slender thread an issue like this hangs by. What is astounding to me is the number of people I know who are firearms owners and do not even bother to vote in certain crucial elections. I bring up an issue such as MicroStamping and I've gotten responses such as "I don't own a handgun" or "I guess I've got all the handguns I need" or "the other end of the State gets what it wants so why bother to vote".

Stamping inside the chamber could be done. A Code engraved inside the chamber wouldn't prevent function. As the round is fired, the casing will expand and "fill in" the engraving leaving a ghost image on the side of the casing. Again, I don't know how they plan to do it, but this could work... Oh wait! Nanites! A batch of nanites in the gun sit waiting for a round to enter the chamber, then they run out and carve the code...No wait, what planet is this? LOL
This could cause ejection issues. Also if the stamping tales place in the barrel or firing pin makes no difference as either can be REPLACED! of course one could use a revolver? Then again this could make the market for pre marked firearms go way up and many more b&E's will be committed to get those weapons. The concept is STUPID! There is no rational person who can justify this idea. The case diabolical that MD did should be proof enough of the folly of tracing in this manner. Of course if we LOCKED up bad guys the FIRST offense we woudl not need this measure as the majority of those committing violent crimes have records already! Then again punishing the bad guys woudl never fly...

Further to this issue is an e-mail I just received from the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association :

It has come to my attention that some unscrupulous people in Western New York are sending to unsuspecting voters a modified NYSRPA Alert that claims the John D. Ceretto the incumbent Republican candidate for reelection in the 138th Assembly District voted yes on Microstamping. THAT IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE!! Inserted into our alert were the words “Dump Ceretto” and you can see from the original alert included below Assemblyman Ceretto clearly voted AGAINST MICROSTAMPING and in fact will be our highest ranked candidate in the 138th Assembly race.

Thank you,

Tom King

President NYSRPA
