Maybe You Guys will Understand How STUPID This Reaction Is

I had it happen to me once, which is very rare here in Arizona. She called me a "fool" for carrying a gun. I told her to blow it out her a$$ and walked away. There's not much you can do with an idiot, let alone an outspoken one. She said something or other about me being "vulgar". I told her to think about my "vulgarity" the next time she wants to prove herself an idiot by walking up to a complete stranger carrying a loaded weapon, and start unloading on them with name calling. The next individual might not possess my restraint. She just starred at me with a frightened look in her eyes.

You're my hero! And I don't care if this is an old thread, it needs to be refreshed!

I used to open carry when I was younger. At first it was because I wore my pistol around the farm and would forget to take it off when I went to town. Later I just decided it was too much trouble to be taking it off and putting it back on, and no one cared. I quit carrying when I retired, but later I wished I had continued after I was jumped by a couple of young black punks. Now I carry concealed at all times, even around the house. I even sleep with my Ruger SR1911 R1S on my lap.

I should add that it doesn't bother me in the least if someone wants to open carry, pistol or long gun. I believe there would be far less crime if all law-abiding citizens carried, open or concealed.

Can we bring girls in short pants and low rise joggers, getting ice cream with AR's into this? They're easier to look at than ugly guys in cargo pants with AK's at Home Depot.

I've CC'd for over 40 years and prefer it...because like a fishing/shooting vest, the BGs would probably shoot the OC and those with vests on first! Secrets are good...why let the cat out of the bag? CC your weapon because surprise can be a good thing for you and a bad thing for the BG (Bad Guys (GG = Good Guys)). I'm reminded by the BG who suddenly had a firearm pointed at him while he was doing his evil deeds, and heard him exclaim, "I thought you weren't allowed to have guns!?"

Please understand that I'm not knocking carrying concealed. I'd just like to offer some food for thought.

About that "having a secret" or what is most often referred to as the "element of surprise" thing..........

CC and OC have the very same "element of surprise" because the "element of surprise" is really nothing more than the bad guy being "surprised" to discover his intended victim ..... has a gun.

With CC the bad guy is "surprised" to see his intended victim has a gun to defend himself with after the bad guy has already chosen his victim and the attack is already in progress and at that point seeing the gun can make the bad guy decide to stop the attack.

With OC the bad guy is "surprised" to see his intended victim has a gun to defend himself with during the bad guy's choosing a victim process and at that point seeing the gun can make the bad guy decide not to attack at all.

But either way... it was the bad guy being "surprised" to see a gun that was the actual "element of surprise".

Quite frankly... I'd prefer the bad guy be "surprised" to see my openly carried gun and decide not to attack me so I can go home and watch the 6 o'clock news coverage .... from the comfort of my easy chair..... about the CC'er who had to pull his gun and "surprise" the bad guy who attacked him.

Does OC's "element of surprise" really work? Well.... there have been thousands of folks open carrying in many States (Like Arizona) for decades! and yet accounts of folks OC'ing being attacked or shot first are rare. And you know with the anti gun media any incident involving an open carrier being attacked or shot first would be covered over and over and over yet such has not been the case in the past nor is it now.

And, in my not so humble opinion, because CC's use of the "element of surprise" is only effective after the attack has begun but OC's use of the "element of surprise" can prevent an attack from happening............. OC's use of the "element of surprise" is far superior to CC's because....

I'd much rather watch the 6 o'clock news than to BE the news.

And graduates of N R A's "highly advanced" training get to surprise the bad guy even more when they pull out their gun and yell, "Surprise! It's not loaded!" :haha:
