ok guys the first couple of comments where a bit over the top...But I understand where you guys are comming from...Kinda funny, but looks like Kimberly is looking for more information.
So Kimberly you need to do a bit more research on choosing a gun... I agree with SgtBill and JSDinTexas.
You need to go to a local FFL (gun dealer) do some research on the Internet (look at videos and reviews, NUTNFANCY on youtube, gunblast, hickock45, safegunreviews and others, but take it with agrain of salt too).
then get yourself a good instructor that can take you to the range and show you a few different guns and calibers, also they can show you how to carry it ( different holsters and ways of carrying that are more comfortable for you) and what ammo to use in it for defensive carry...But the most important thing to do is...
Find the gun that speaks to you that is one that feels good in your hands when you hold it. Also, look for a trigger (Single Action / Double Action or Doble Action Only )that you like and do not forget about the safety portion of it (with manual safety or without).
Also remember that the smaller guns like the Ruger LCP, LCR, Kel-Tech PM9, P3AT and Taurus PT709 or PT740, etc are small guns and greate for conceal carry but they are a bit snappy and take a greater time to master due to the size, weight, sights, ammo(9mm,38 or .380 with +P on regular pressure loads) and trigger. So you need to get used to shooting them.
another thing I wanted to say is I welcome you to the Carry club, I hope you enjoy your life long trip to learning the art of conceal carry and personal defense..!
also remeber to train not just with a gun...because sometimes you are not going to have a chance to pull your gun and you may need to create that opportunity by getting physical with your attacker.
all and all enjoy your gun that is the main reason. I recommend Springfield XP or XPm subcompact (9mm or 40SW depending on your recoil tolerance level).
Smith and Wesson M&P compacts or there revolvers..!
Ruger LCP or LC9 and LCR revolver.
Kel-Tec PF9 or P11
if you want to spend some good cash
Kimber has a SOLO or the ultra carry line
Springfield EMP 9 or 40
Glock...well you can pick any single one of them
SigSauer has P250, P290, P239 or P238
hope it helps.
