God & the Bible, squaring belief with reality

. You may, indeed, have a logical mind but your intelligence compared to that of God is like comparing an earthworm to man. You know, that dusty old book called the Bible holds all the facts needed for faith. If you try to approach it through your own perceived wisdom, you won't understand it. .
<< Isaiah 55 >>

8“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.

9“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways
And My thoughts than your thoughts.

10“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
And do not return there without watering the earth
And making it bear and sprout,
And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater;

11So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth;
It will not return to Me empty,
Without accomplishing what I desire,
And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.

The Bible & Present Day Reality

According to the Prophet Zechariah, "in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it." (Zechariah 12:2-3)

Until this year, it it was hard to imagine a scenario in which Israel would stand alone against the entire world. Israel's protector and international guardian has always been the United States. But that's changing, too.

Another Sign of the End of the Age & the Last Generation.

A third reason for complacency in the face of Israel's impending demise: The American Jewish community is no longer united in support of Israel, much less its Likudnik leadership.
People do not realize that over the past 20 years or so, the average American-born Jew feels little to no ties to Israel.

Excellent article Ringo, thanks for sharing.

The problem with unbelievers is that they really don't understand death. For a believer in the MESSIAH, death is nothing more than the doorway through which one enters into the eternal presence of God.

Atheism─The Cult of Death–
Todd Strandberg

As long as people have believed in God, there have been those who take the opposing view. The ranks of atheists have always been small, never amounting to more than four percent of the population. The key problem with atheism is that it lacks a strong “selling point.” The followers of this view find purpose in life by attacking the validity of the Holy Bible.

Atheists are so opposed to anything linked to God that their hatred gets in the way of common sense. One of their most grievous errors is a cultic fixation with death. I have read the views of several leading atheists and have found an almost universal embracing of death. For them, life is just meant to come to an abrupt end.

They reject any option that provides a potential solution to the dying process. Atheists are all for someone wanting to live longer, but if they desire to live forever─it suddenly becomes a vice. They pride themselves on being free of religious dogma yet they cling to one creed─“In death there is no hope.”

Albert Einstein was a brilliant man, but his insight was restricted to the material world:

“The concept of a soul without a body seems to me to be empty and devoid of meaning. Neither can I nor would I want to conceive of an individual that survives his physical death.”

Mark Twain is widely quoted by atheists for his nothing gained and nothing lost view of death:

“I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.”

Biologist, Richard Dawkins, says we have no need to complain about dying because most people will never have a chance to be born. We better complain now, because once we die, we’re no better off than those folks never born.

I see this welcoming attitude toward death as a form of insanity. If we managed to defy such massive odds to be born into this world, it would be foolhardy to so willingly surrender such a precious gift. I don’t regret depriving some worm of a good meal. They don’t even have enough intelligence to say, “Boy, Todd tastes good. Yum!”

Atheists’ cheeriness about the end of life extends to the second death. Even though they don’t believe in a hell, most express a bizarre willingness to take a swan dive into the lake of fire. Pat Condell is a well-known atheist on YouTube. In one of his latest videos he said:

“So can I say to the people who have said they are praying for me, don’t do it. I’m beyond redemption. I categorically reject God. I wholeheartedly deny the Holy Spirit. I’m resigned to damnation. And I’m absolutely fine with it.”

If there is no God to grant us an afterlife, atheists should be the main frontline cheerleaders of an effort to find immortality through research. One of them should be the Jerry Lewis of natural causes: “Yes, please donate so we can find a cure for what is responsible for one-hundred percent of non-accidental deaths.”

I don’t know of any leading atheists that plan to be cryogenically frozen. According to the game plan medical science will eventually advance to the point where it can revive and restore a dead person to perfect health. These atheists could spend their first few days of new life dancing on the graves of foolish Christians who trusted in a pipe dream.

I’ve looked at several atheists’ sites about the subject of cryogenic and they almost universally focus of on the technological obstacles. One saying the $170,000 base rate fee should be used to make this life better. But what should it matter to a billionaire atheist like Bill Gates who could easily spent the money and continue his charity work? If cryogenics failed, it’s not like he’d know the difference.

I’m writing on an article that deals with the odds of our existence. In the article, I listed two possibilities: God’s involvement and one driven by random chance. I spoke with two leading atheists about a section I had planned to title: “Atheist Reincarnation.” I had to change it to: “Random Reincarnation,” because the atheist told me they reject the possibility of life ever reforming. I was stunned by this view because evolution is based on them winning the long odds of random chance. It makes no sense they would argue that: “It can’t happen again.”

I spoke with theoretical physicist, Lawrence Krauss, at a Las Vegas conference, and he said, “Atheists don’t like to use the word eternity.” Even though the forces in the universe may remain constant for all eternity, they avoid the term because God is too closely associated with it.

Atheists go as far as calling eternal life a curse. They argue that life with no end would eventually become boring and unbearable. One atheist said that if he, was allowed into heaven after a few thousand years, the empty perfection of the heavenly realm would compel him to ask God for annihilation.

I don’t see the warm embrace that many atheists associate with death. At the end of their lives they would lose everything they achieved in this world. Their loves, discoveries and experiences would all be instantly voided.

I can only conclude that the obsession with death on the part of atheists is the result of demonic delusion. Even a godless skeptical mind should know that one of the basic driving forces in nature is the desire to preserve life─at all costs.

One thing that helped me remain confident in my faith is the understanding that there are forces dedicated to attacking my beliefs. If God was a lie and there was no life after death, why would people have such a volatile allergic reaction to a message that seems so reasonable? When I see people who blindly embrace death, I see the fingerprints of the one who brought death into this world.

“You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44).

There is hope for people who wish to gain eternal life. The greatest promise made in the Bible is when God said, “I will give you eternal life.” Jesus paid the price of allowing our bodies to become immune to death. In order to receive that gift of immortality, all we need to do is ask for it.

“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (John 11:25, emphasis added).

“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life” (1 John 5:11-12, emphasis added).

Why is it so hard to conceptualize that..their could be the possibility of nothing after death? Is fear the diver of religion? From the looks of this article it seems to be plagued with oddities. "most express a bizarre willingness to take a swan dive into the lake of fire." what? who? I'm not an "atheist" per say but I'm not putting all my eggs in one religion basket and assuming it's the "right" religion.

That's only true if you place God within the constraints of our universe. From our perception, we have 3 dimensions; height, width and depth. According to relativity, time is the 4th dimension. Indeed, science has shown up to 17 dimensions, and likely many more. From our point of view, time is a never changing constant, but Einstein and others have shown that's not really true. If we believe that God created the universe, then logically, he must also exist outside of the universe. If God exists outside of the universe, but has influence over it, then God by necessity must also exist outside of time. I believe this is why the Bible says God is the same yesterday, today and forever. This is also the only logical explanation for an eternal heaven and hell. If heaven or hell were a place that existed within our universe, it would have to follow the laws of physics as they exist in this universe. And the laws of physics indicate that if our universe truly is eternal, then it will either slowly die out (search "heat death of the universe" for more on that) or will collapse in on itself. Neither of those scenarios allows for a place where eternal souls go and not only survive, but flourish. So if God is real, he exists outside of the universe, and by extension, so do heaven and hell. It is then completely possible that God both knows our future, and lets us determine it for ourselves through our choices. The simple explanation is that God is essentially a time traveler (in the sci-fi sense). Just because Doc Brown hops in a Delorean and cracks off 30 years in the future, doesn't mean that everything he saw in the future was pre-determined to happen that way. The people involved still made all of the choices to get to that point, he just skipped the middle chapters and went straight to the end.

So the point is, you can take a defeatist attitude that nothing really matters and it's all going to happen how it's going to happen, OR you can lay claim to your fate, accept God for what he is and live your life with a purpose greater than your 80 or so years. Just because at some point your book gets written, doesn't mean you don't have to do the writing. It's up to you to make it worth reading.

"The simple explanation is that God is essentially a time traveler (in the sci-fi sense)." with this however you fall into the constraints of our universe. Also "just because at some point your book gets written, doesn't mean you don't have to do the writing. It's up to you to make it worth reading." I absolutely agree! and that's why I don't denounce one religion as my own, I live my life according to how I want to live. If I pop up before some guy and he's all like "SINNER" well **** I had fun, and lived how I wanted, but until then... I cannot accept the constraints of such.

Most of us non believers just do not talk about it. the non believers are NOT selling anything thus unlike the church they do not need selling points.

Non believers do not worry about death. The church ( every church ) for that matter has death and what lies beyond as it's very basis. When did you see a atheist with a dead guy on a cross as there symbol? Who is fixated with death those who think you die or those who think death is a starting point. As for hatred please tell me at what point in the HISTORY of the earth that people of faith where killed because they refused to not believe? There is on the other hand endless countless examples where those who believe having killed those who do not believe or do not believe the same! Please if your going to talk about what we have historical proof of try not to lie so blatantly about it!!!!!

The truth is like a rock thrown into a pack of rabid dogs, the one it hits barks the loudest. I hear you barking pal, but I didn't write the article. As for hatred, why is it that every time we Christians relate to one another or post something scriptural, you atheists foam at the mouth, BUTT IN and attack and mock with your foul mouth full of ridiculing blasphemy and lead the subject matter down the same old rabbit trail of mindless rhetoric in defense of something you don't believe exists? Pathetic. You stinking hypocrites always whine like children and complain about having scripture shoved down your throat. Well guess what pal, if you would keep your nose out of a discussion that doesn't concern you then the discussion wouldn't involve you and you'd have nothing to complain about. Like the article said, "Atheists are so opposed to anything linked to God that their hatred gets in the way of common sense".

I have no hatred. I do not hate people because they do or do not choose to believe in something. Is you want to stand neeked in the forest and pray to the ants more power to ya. I have no hate. I may not like everyone but I hate no person. On the other hand those who believe not only HATE but kill in there religions name not in history but TODAY in this world people die every day because what they either believe OR what they do not believe in. As for mocking well lets see a group of people that say that a person was born from a virgin ( though if you study history this does not mean she never had SEX ) grew up freed the jews ( my ancestors ) was put to death on a cross as the result of a betrayal from one of his close friends taken down put in a cave the cave sealed then later people went to visit the cave he was gone and then they heard stories of him up and walking around for a while then he dissipated? Now if you kid came home from school and told you a story like this this you would no that could not happen. However you condemn jews saying they are wrong along with every other religion in the world. Those of you who believe this was also think Zenu and his story is a complete and utter impossibility. Why is it ok for the church to condemn anything they dislike BUT when someone questions the church they are hateful evil people? Want to preach that great. But name me ONE atheist who killed on mass those who did not agree with him/ her? The list of of people of almost every FAITH who have on the other hand is long and ONGOING!!! As for butting in this is a FORUM look the word up. As for your scriptures post all you want. I have read them. I know all the sad nasty things contained in them. All the things YOU refuse to talk about and choose to ignore. So if you wish to call hypocrite then you have to look no further then the closest mirror. I on the other hand have a free mind free of hate towards all man even those who think or believe other than I. The fact is that if your book is that and you truly BELIEVE it then why is it you seen to be so easy offended by what I think about it? Moreover why would god write a book ( or cause to have written ) a book that so easily points out the rift between the reality of today and the words in the book? I tried to use direct quotes chapter and verse from YOUR book but to no avail as they say things that most consider to be stupid evil or simply rude. Feel free to look back through them. You want to debate strictly on the words in the book that fine but I am betting YOU do not follow your own book as it is written. The very definition of hypocrite!!

I tried to use direct quotes chapter and verse from YOUR book but to no avail as they say things that most consider to be stupid evil or simply rude.

Of course you found it to no avail, God made that very clear.
1 Corinthians 2:14
"For the natural man (unbeliever) is not able to take in the things of the Spirit of God: for they seem foolish to him, and he is not able to have knowledge of them, because such knowledge comes only through the Spirit".

And when it comes to considering scripture stupid, evil or rude, it's a given considering your inability to comprehend. In proof of Jesus Christ we have the prophecies, which are solid and palpable proofs. And these prophecies, being accomplished and proved true by the event, mark the certainty of these truths and, therefore, the divinity of Christ. In reference to the prophecies mentioned let me explain that the Old Testament has over 300 prophetic references to the Messiah and every one of them was fulfilled by Jesus Christ, conclusively establishing Him as the Messiah, the Son of God. By using the science of probability we find that for just eight of these prophecies to be fulfilled in one man it would take a probability of one in 100 trillion! Let's put that into perspective, shall we?

If we took 100 trillion silver dollars marked only one of them and laid them on the ground they would cover the entire state of Texas two feet deep. Now, mix the whole pile up and instruct someone to find the marked one - Blindfolded. What chance would he have of picking the marked one? The same chance the Bible writers would have in having 8 of these prophecies fulfilled in the life of one man if they weren't divinely inspired by God. What about having 48 of these Bible prophecies fulfilled in one man's life? The chance of any one man fulfilling all of 48 prophecies is one in ten to the 157th power. The electron is about as small an object as we can get. If we had a cubic inch of these electrons and tried to count them, it would take us (at 250 per minute) 19,000 times 19,000 times 19,000 years to count them. Now mark one of them, mix them up and have our blindfolded guy find the right one. What are his chances? The same chance as one man fulfilling 48 of the prophecies about Christ without Him actually being the Son of God! Now here's the clincher, Jesus Christ fulfilled not 8, not 48 but all 300 prophecies in His life! Am I stupid for trusting and relying in the truth of the Bible?

Once again you quote the passages YOU like and or agree with but ignore the ones you do not. You also choose to ignore the hypocrisy of the church who goes out of it's way to persecute those who do not think the same way they do from name calling to genocide. Again please tell me ONE non believer who did this. Please tell me why more people have been KILLED under the name of your god then any other? Though shall not kill unless they do not believe as we do??? You can not even talk to a person who does not think the way you do without name calling. Again I ask who has hate for whom? While I point out the facts do not begrudge you your belief those or your side on the other hand not only begrudge my way but resort to name calling, harassment and all the way up to genocide over and over again through history and still going strong today. You know the AMERICAN church sends people to Africa to support putting homosexuals in JAIL and even support the killing of said people. According to YOUR book god cast the devil himself out of heaven but still loves him! why are his people here on earth so cruel to there fellow man?

Much death and destruction has been brought on in the name of God. This is man's excuse to justify man's actions. This is no different, in my opinion, than a family member seeking revenge for the death of a family member. Again this is man's justification to do harm to another. Not something ordained by the dead family member.

Once again the hypocrisy of religion. If it is a BAD thing it is mans fault alone. However any GOOD act is credited to god and the church goers have zero problem with praising god for them. Either god gave you free will or he did not. You do not get it both ways.

Religion is a collection of belief systems that relate humanity to spirituality and to morale values. Maine, you can call it hypocrisy all you want. the fact remains man has a free will to do good deeds or bad. If believers choose to give God credit for good deeds, what does it matter to you or other non-believers. This is where the faith thing comes in. There's one God and over 4000 religions that claim they are the highway to Heaven. You still have a God given free will to be a believer or a non-believer.

Because it is annoying to try to talk with a person who is so hypocritical about what they SAY they believe. It is that simple. If you Think you have free will and god lets you like your life then giving him credit for a good deed while saying the bad deed was all on you is not just hypocritical but failure to follow the book. As for your thinking there is one god is so wrong. Many religions have many gods. And the vast majority of religions all have completely different gods. Again this is the problem with religion they justify there actions with PARTS of there book. This is why the catholic church is so fragmented along with other major religions. Even those of the SAME faith can not agree on what the book means.

fuhr: I hate to tell you this but you are wasting your time arguing with an atheist. You will be called a hypocrite and all other kinds of names. It is fascinating to me exactly how hard those people try to disprove the existance of God or in the hereafter. Just remember that wide is the road that leads to destruction. All of the intellectual hypotheses that they are posing are nothing compared to God in His wisdom. The Bible says to "earnestly contend for the faith." You have tried, I have tried, Ringo, Blues, fstroupe and many others have tried to no avail so I intend to ignore them as they ignore us and will not argue about God with them. In the end, whether they want to believe or not, they will meet God, face to face. Then they can postulate all the theories against Him they want. I do not think He will want to hear it.

I realize what you are saying, arguing with an atheist is kind of like arguing with a progressive liberal. They are right you are wrong, end of subject. Maine chooses to use his free will to disbelieve, so be it.
