Crossbreed Holster (and others) Easy-On Method

I have a CrossBreed Super Tuck holster for my XDm 9mm 3.8 Compact along with a Blackhawk leather IWB holster. I really liked everything about the CrossBreed but found myself using the Blackhawk because it was such a pain to put the CrossBreed on.

With the Blackhawk, I could easily slip it inside my belt and slide the metal clip over the belt. With the CrossBreed, I pretty much had to unfasten by belt and pants to get it on. So, I tended to use the Blackhawk holster. (BTW – either holster was just as easy to remove.) But the CrossBreed was so much more comfortable and stable – just a pain to put it on.

One day, I discovered a simple method for installing the CrossBreed that made it just as easy to put on as the Blackhawk. What I came to realize was that it was easier to pull my belt/waistband away from my body at the small of my back than it was at my side where the holster would actually go. So here is the “Easy-On” method that I now use:

  1. With the hand of your strong side, grasp the CrossBreed holster with your thumb inside the Kydex towards the front of the holster and your fingers on the outside of the Kydex. Position the index finger so that it is touching the leather.

  2. With the hand of your weak side, reach behind your back, slip your fingers inside the waistband and pull it out slightly.

  3. Insert the CrossBreed inside the waistband at the small of your back so that the Kydex is slightly above the belt line.

  4. Slide the CrossBreed from the small of your back to the final side location using your thumb to drag it and your index and adjacent finger(s) to guide it into place.

  5. Grasp the front clip and slip it up and over the waistband and put it in place on the belt.

  6. In the same manner, grasp the back clip and put it on the belt.

And there you have it – a really easy way to put on a CrossBreed holster or similar hybrid model. Now I use my CrossBreed Super Tuck almost exclusively.

Enjoy!

I have a SHTF IWB holster I've been struggling with. I actually put it on with my pants pulled down.

I can't wait to try your method!

Have the same issue with my Old Faithful, great to wear, PITA to put on. I'll have to give your method a shot. It sounds as if it might work.

Thanks for the heads up! I wonder how that works with the V-clips? I'll have to try when I get home...

Im looking for a good iwb and been looking at a few but just don't know which is right for me without spending a lot of money.

I've never been satisfied after buying a cheap, "good deal", when it comes to holsters. After accumulating several which now just sit in a gym bag in my closet, I bit the bullet and purchased a Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe and their quality belt. After having bought all of those junk holsters, i could have already paid for the Crossbreed to begin with! It's worth spending the money on a quality holster and just being done with it, IMO.

The only thing I've bought since is more Crossbreeds in OWB, or for a different carry piece, or left handed of what I already have (I carry/shoot ambidextrously). Just my two cents....

I have an Old Faithful too, put it on the the belt/pants before I put the pants on. Hard to see where I'm putting it if I don't, carry around 4-4:30.

Old Faithful "kit" on Ebay or from their web site. About half what you pay for one finished. Easy to put together and fully adjustable.

I also put the holster on my pants before I put them on

If you are carrying and need to go in somewhere where you can't legally do that, this easy-on method allows you to do that without having to find a restroom where you can reassemble yourself.

Try it and see for yourself how easy it is!

:secret: I open my pants, at waist level, hold the rear belt clip and pull it around inside the pants until the front clip is at the proper position. I put the front clip on the belt then hold the rear of the pants and put the rear clip on the belt. This is the easiest way I have found to put on the Crossbreed or the Kholster holsters, both of which I use. Note, I put the holster on empty then put the gun in the holster after tightening my belt.

Old Faithful hip holster stage 3 kit for 40 bucks. You have to assemble it but if you have 15 minutes to spare and know how to follow simple instructions then you're all set.

Just upholster my gun, unload it, put it in my gun safe under my seat or out of sight.
After I get done in the killing zone, load the gun and re holster it... That's my easy method...

my first and only holster is a cb supertuck it's easy to put on and take off sometimes i wear the same jeans or shorts for a few days if they don't get to dirty and i just leave the belt and holster on my pants when i take them off for the night ..i just remove the gun and put it in my safe place when i sleep .....so when i put on the same jeans or shorts in the morning i just slip on my pants and reholster the gun .......
