I agree with timtheref. It depends on your state laws. I live in AZ and I can carry a knife cc or OC without permit. I went to GA and they do require a permit to carry a knife in GA. You can check gun laws by state at "gunlawsbystate.com". They have the gun laws for all 50 states. It should also have the laws about knives as well.
In Delaware we have a Concealed Carry Weapons Permit, which covers most anything, but there are a few exceptions. I think one being a "switchblade" knife.
Without specifying a location, that's a meaningless question.
In Ohio, there is ONLY a "concealed handgun license". It authorizes the carry of a concealed handgun, and or carry of a loaded handgun in a vehicle. It covers NO other defensive tools, be they long guns, knives or clubs.
Firearms laws are preempted at the state level in Ohio. Laws regarding knives, clubs, etc., are not preempted. Every little podunk town can have their own laws covering such items. You can walk or drive through three adjacent communities and be subject to three ENTIRELY different sets of laws.
I agree the question is to vague and needs to be state specific. In North Carolina it's for a handgun only, however you can carry a rifle or other weapon in a locked trunk as long as you are unable to have access to it while operating or as a passenger in a vehicle.
