Citizens Encouraged to Fight Shooters

The problem I see with Lanier and other CoPs coming out and saying that they *now* support armed citizens taking out active shooters, is that all they're saying is do *now* what has always been legal for anyone *allowed* to carry a gun in public, but which we viewed with disdain, suspicious, and many times criminal before, especially in D.C. As such, since the *new* attitude is, well, new, and therefore outside the "norm," any or all of the CoPs who have made such statements can change their internal policy-directives again, and go back to the "norm" without announcing the "change." Lanier should be counted upon to be inconsistent in her enforcement of gun laws in D.C. I read somewhere just the other day that since Heller was decided in '08, there are currently only 46 or 48 private-citizen-held permits issued so far to even buy a gun to keep in the home. It would be interesting to know how many, if any, carry permits have been issued. If I were a bettin' man, I'd wager on zero.

Lanier isn't credible in that video. Talk is cheap, and I'm surprised Yeager seems so excited and encouraged by her cheap talk. Start testifying before the City Council and other agencies that have gun rights locked down to near nothing on behalf of gun rights Chief Lanier, and then I'll let loose with some minor kudos for your opportunistic cheap talking. Start issuing public directives telling your beat-officers that no more 4th or 2nd Amendment violations of gun owners will be tolerated, and then follow through with severe disciplinary actions when your beat cops don't care what you say and beat and rob the people they're sworn to protect the rights of anyway, and you'll get big props from me and people who think like me. But I literally couldn't care less what you say Chief Lanier, because you're among the worst of the worst rights-violators this country has ever seen. And James Yeager saying "Bravo Chief, braaaavo!" while applauding her phony platitudes is nothing short of disappointing, if not downright disgusting. Screw 'em both.

Indian like the kind from India - my father brought my brothers and me to the US when I was 2 (my mom died in India while he was here studying medicine). I spent two years in Germany after high school and over there the kids my age thought only American Indians live in Indiana. It was fun trying to explain to them that I was an India Indian from Indiana - the thought blew their minds.

Chief Lanier has issued 45-50 concealed carry permits to private citizens, out of over 200 applicants, since the Palmer decision last year.

In a city that size, with the incredibly long list of gun-free zones and other restrictions, it is basically a hunting preserve for terrorists and criminals.

This is one of those rare occasions when we might actually agree with Chief Lanier.... ....it’s just possible that a skilled concealed carry holder could cut the mayhem short or, if nothing else, pin down the shooter and buy the police a little more time to get on the scene and take control. What’s not to like about that?

Well, Link Removed, if the mass shooting in question is taking place in Washington, D.C. you’d better hope that one of less than fifty people in the entire city happen to be in the same building with you, because that’s how many concealed carry permits she has approved since the Supreme Court ordered her to start processing them.

I would've won the fool's bet that Lanier is credible in what she said on 60 Minutes about carriers being any kind of bulwark against terrorism or other active shooting scenarios. Just another platitude-spewing, pabulum-puking, stinkin' cop hack.

Yeah, it's all interesting. From what I gather, Lanier said it first and then some other Chiefs copied her. Before I heard it from IMPD, I heard a debate between a couple of pro gun and anti gun gal's on fox news about Lanier's statement. The anti said it would be crazy to have a bunch of permit holders shooting at a shooter. She said Lanier's meaning was that we should try to take out shooters by tackling them rather than shooting back with guns because even cops who are trained to shoot miss 70% of the time. :hang3: Also interesting to hear L.E. saying this while Obama talks more gun control. But... if we have another terrorist shooting or two i'll bet we hear more talk like this from police.

Sheriff of Brevard County, Fla on Fox News this morning encouraging citizens of the county who are permit holders to carry and be prepared to defend themselves and public if necessary. For me it's not so much the legality but sherriffs / chiefs around the country talking this way.
