Axeanda45, it is cool that you can have your own home range! It is great that you can say it is legal. What all do you shoot there? I assume you have a backstop of some kind? Would you share what it is made of & how big it is? And I assume it at your property line? Thinking of some spots that might be made into shooting ranges around here, with houses around.. I am guessing your property is about 1/2 acre? You said houses 150 feet in 3 directions - does that mean the fourth direction is the street your driveway is on? There are a lot of folks around us in unincorporated section of OH that would love to build their own home range! Give us some details please.

Log sections/pieces in front of an approx 12 ft tall hill of dirt... (which itself is in front of/at the base of a 200 ft tall hillside) in the middle of my yard and bullets fly in the direction of the rest of my 20 or so acres which is mostly hill/small mountain (but into the hill of dirt)... my house is on the edge of my property line and this is to the side and behind it. This was not designed as a firing range... it is just a very safe backstop to fire into, and I do so quite often.... I can stand inside my house in the doorway and sight in scopes... makes it very convenient when it is raining, but the wife doesnt like it much when I do that, lol

At one time or another throughout the year, all of my neighbors shoot off firearms in their yards.... it is quite hilly here, the roof on the house across the street from me is about 30 ft below the level of my front porch..... so we all have hillsides for backstops when we need them.
that sounds wonderful! You must be in SE Ohio where the Appalachians begin...
I do wonder though how you get neighbors 150 feet feet away on 2 sides and yet have 20 acres! In our section of Ohio, zoning says the max 'depth of a plot is 1000 feet if skinny like yours.... So 300ft wide makes for a 20 acre plot that is an amazing 20*43,560ft^2= 871,200ft^2, so divide by 300ft wide lot and you must be 3,000 feet deep! amazing! You must have gotten a zoning variance for that! Was it hard?
With 12' backstop (little shy for 'safe' - NRA and others suggest min of 18-20 feet), then 200' hill - I assume it is on YOUR property, not neighbors - is good.
We have city folk moving out here to the 'country' all the time and think since they now own 1/2-2 acres they can put a log at their & their neighbor's property line and shoot into it, using their neighbors farm as their safe zone behind their 1' tall log. Unfortunately we have really dumb barney fife cops who have no clue this is unsafe.

After my property line and a couple acres of heavy pine woods starts a wetland that goes-on about two miles until it reaches a large lake. We aim in that direction.

I own 3 lots along the road, all adjoining, and 18 or so wooded hillside behind them and most of the neighbors.. I also own all but 1 tiny strip behind the houses across the road... I have them surrounded! lol
There is no zoning in this area.... not like you are talking about anyway... Dont even need to get a permit to build a house...... just required to let them know you did it so they can raise your property taxes...
What's amazing to me about this thread is that people still seem to think the constitution and common law hold in America, was this act legal? probably, I don't know for sure I don't claim to know the laws of the area where the incident happened, would the cops take the time to ask you questions or treat you as an armed aggressor if they were called to investigate? Probably. The bottom line is that you don't want to be that guy getting cuffed in front of your neighbor because you tuck your nose into something that was really none ofyour business
