Allow guns in school?

That very likely is not an Israeli teacher. There are armed adults at Israeli schools, but only in rare circumstances, and usually only in the West Bank, are they the teachers. The armed people you see at Israeli schools, even though they may be in civilian clothes, are security guards. Israel has very strict gun control laws. It's extremely hard to get a gun there as a civilian, and they're still very tightly controlled if you ever manage to get one. But the principle underlying the picture is still very sound. Armed adults at the schools do make them far more secure.

I read that the picture was of a teacher’s assistant.

The bottom line is, if a criminal knows there’s an armed person, be it either a guard, ex-military, or a teacher who’s qualified, the criminal will think twice and very hard before they attack a school.

I feel like if there is one armed guard he just becomes the first target if teachers can carry concealed the shooter won't know who is armed and how many are armed

Either arm the teachers or have armed guards in schools, but one way or another you need people who can throw some rounds at a shooter.

:dirol:

Damn hard for a shooter to walk through a building shooting unarmed, innocent people when someone who also is armed is tossing lead at him too. Only LEGAL carried guns in any building is the answer. NO GUNS ALLOWED??? Just read my signature!

All schools should allow concealed carry. The Oregon mall shooter took his own life the minute he saw the CHL civilian with his weapon drawn. The conclusion is too obvious to ignore, but ignore it the liberals will.

I am definatly for arming teachers, but it would definatly have to be voluntary on the part of the teacher. and ONLY after the teacher were properly trained, both in use of the weapon and preventing it from being taken. also the cost would have to be settled, this is not a perfect solution, but nether is more stupid gun laws that don't do anything except let politicians blow there own horn, it has been PROVEN time and time again gun laws do not stop or even slow gun violence. if someone can come up with a more viable solution, please post up, because we all know that as far as school systems paying what it would cost to properly staff each school with armed officers would never happen. one last thing and this has to do with everthing i have been hearing concerning the liability of arming teachers, do you not think that those parents in Newtown would rather have had teacher shoot the gunman or do what they did and bury there children......

So you were required to take that training before you could carry? I find it interesting that some people who cringe at conditions being attached to the exercising of their own 2nd amendment rights, don't seem to have any problem attaching conditions to the same rights when exercised by others. I'm used to seeing stuff like that from people like Bloomberg, the Hollywood elite and powerful liberals, but not from pro-2nd amendment advocates. It's an eye opener to say the least.

To be honest, I really don't think it would do much, if any, good. You might get a few teachers here and there, mostly in the south, who would carry...but I doubt there'd be a meaningful number of them and I doubt many of those who would would be elementary school teachers.

I work for a large school district. Most teachers, the majority of whom are females, would be more worried about having a weapon in children than they would be about what they might need it for. On top of that, there'd be such a backlash from parents that most districts would never implement such a thing even if it was allowed by law.

And finally, inevitably, there would be an accident somewhere...and it would be over everywhere. The liability is just too high in this country.

I think we're better off insisting there is at least one armed guard at every school.

First, with school districts and police departments cutting staff and finances all across the country, just where do you expect to find the money to place an armed guard in every school?

Second, a few armed staff and faculty here and there is better than what we have right now -- which is NO armed staff or faculty in most parts of the country.

Third, there ARE some states in which it is legal for those with CPLs to carry in schools. Michigan is currently one of them - if you OC with a CPL. Screw the backlash; if I'm a teacher (I'm not), carrying increases the likelihood that I return home alive; let the others live - and die - by their own choices. I am responsible for myself, my family, and my students. To quote Tom Clancy, "'Fair' means I bring all my people home alive." You probably know the rest of that statement from Rainbow Six.

Obama's new preemptive 140% income tax on the rich. If you think there's any chance your offspring may be successful in the future, you have to start paying extra taxes now, because the tax rates on them will be so high that their taxes will exceed their actual income. In order for them to survive, and for big government to get its' well deserved money, you have to start preemptively paying part of their future income taxes now. And if you think your grandkids might be successful, you're REALLY screwed.

Better written article about Harold, Texas School, and Superintendent Thweat, who wrote the "Guardian Plan":
Harrold, Texas School Gun Policy Defended After Newtown Shooting
Here's another article about a program that would really work, also:
Newtown shooting: Why Minutemen can protect against active shooters
As far as saying teachers wouldn't go for being armed... bullcorn! It only takes one!

Good find, just wish the idiots in Washington could learn from Texas.

That's true, Rhino, and that means if I have to pay their taxes for them... well. I'm screwed... I have 19 Grands and 15 Greats!
