I currently possess a sportsman's license for my two pistols, but cannot carry concealed unless traveling to or from a range or gun club. I would like to apply for a CCW permit, but wonder if it would be an exercise in futility. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

I am new to this site and I'm looking for any info/advice on obtaining my CCW in Suffolk County, NY. I already have my "Sportsman" pistol permit that allows concealed carry to and from the range ONLY. I'd like to be able to carry concealed whenever I leave my home. Thanks!
