do your kids know?

My 8yo son knows and understands why. Like others, he knows that if he sees me even put my hand to it, he needs to get down. We also have a code word.

He regularly shoots a Savage MKII .22 and a Ruger SR22 and has for almost two years. (well, the Savage anyway)

My children are young adults. They know I carry, obviously. There have been a couple of times when our family would be traveling and passing through seedy sections of a city, and my daughter would ask "Daddy, do you have your gun"?
Just today my son-in-law told me he is scheduled to take his concealed carry course. Last week my son proudly showed me his first gun purchase, a new .40 caliber Ruger.

Why would you tell them that you carry? Mine are 7 & 9 years old. Children do not need to know such things. My experience has been they will want to discuss it in very inappropriate public places. I'm always carrying phones and pagers so when the do brush against it it doesn't seem out of place.

They do know basic gun safety and do know I have guns.. They just don't know I carry them. That would be something for a later date when they are much older.

I can't imagine my parents being able to hide what they were carrying from me at that age. LOL It's not so much a matter of telling them as it is not feeling a need to hide from them.

My kids know. My theory is when you try to hide something from somebody and they find out they get more curious and that is when trouble could arise.
