handgun too while hunting. illinois

Hi all im new to the site but been active hunter in illinois. Jus started shotgun deer hunting. Was wondering if anyone new is it alright to have a handgun with me as a self defense while out hunting or is it illegal in illinois. I cant seem to find info on it if its legal or not. I dnt see y not im out hunting already with a shotgun

I don't have a clue about IL. However, I would speak with DNR to get advice on this. I would not trust my freedom to someone's opinion.

You need to look at whether or not you can legally carry a handgun at all in your area, then go look at the hunting regulations.

This page says that you cannot carry a handgun in IL unless it is unloaded among other things, so I assume the answer to your question is no.

it is legal to hunt with a handgun. the certain caliber size n length in barrel. and no u cant carry it onnvisously in public. but during season. u can i found all my answers. thanks though

Glad I live in MN, you can have a handgun on you while hunting and don't even have to have a permit. Much more human to finish a deer off with a handgun
