Looking for the best handgun

can you suggest any handgun that would best suit a girl like me?

Not knowing your body type. For example small frame vs big frame,
Not knowing strength, and experience with fire arms. Take a look at
The Lady Smith And Wesson. It was design with women in mind. Easy to load and the trigger pull
Is a little lighter for women. And it comes in pink too.

There's a lot goes into choosing a handgun, What's it going to be used for? Self defense or just target shooting? How familiar are you with firearms? etc... w/o specific info I wouldn't even want to speculate.

Best thing to do is call a couple gun ranges in your area and ask them if they rent guns to try out on the range. A lot of ranges have range guns you can try. Try out the different guns and see what feels best in your hand. Also, you will want to try different calibres of guns and see what calibre you can handle. If you are looking at this for target shooting, then a lower calibre would be good, if you are looking for the larges calibre you can handle. I also advise, if you are new to guns, that you check out some of the courses that ranges offer for proper handling and maintenance of the gun. I say this as I am not familiar with your knowledge level. But, once you figure out approximately what you are looking for, then you can zero in based upon price range and features.

I don't believe there is such a thing as 'the best handgun' because the types, models, and features all have advantages and disadvantages. Then there is choice of caliber of ammo, type of ammo, a holster maybe, plain or night sights, and considerations like one's physical abilities.
The only advice I would give is at minimum you want a gun that you can grip well (not just tight but fits) to control it, has features you can master, and that you can put 3 fast shots in a 1 foot circle at 20 feet.

best? all depends

My wife is five feet tall, 135 lbs. She loves her Glocks 26 but it is hard to conceal. She carries a Kel Tec P32 but not much firepower. My LCP is a good balance of both and just bought het a Kel Tec P3-AT because she knows the brand and she can handle the extra kick. For what its worth.

My wife has a m&p in 9. She loves it and the different grip backs helped for her small hands.
She didnt like the feel of my glock 19.

ok guys the first couple of comments where a bit over the top...But I understand where you guys are comming from...Kinda funny, but looks like Kimberly is looking for more information.

So Kimberly you need to do a bit more research on choosing a gun... I agree with SgtBill and JSDinTexas.

You need to go to a local FFL (gun dealer) do some research on the Internet (look at videos and reviews, NUTNFANCY on youtube, gunblast, hickock45, safegunreviews and others, but take it with agrain of salt too).

then get yourself a good instructor that can take you to the range and show you a few different guns and calibers, also they can show you how to carry it ( different holsters and ways of carrying that are more comfortable for you) and what ammo to use in it for defensive carry...But the most important thing to do is...

Find the gun that speaks to you that is one that feels good in your hands when you hold it. Also, look for a trigger (Single Action / Double Action or Doble Action Only )that you like and do not forget about the safety portion of it (with manual safety or without).

Also remember that the smaller guns like the Ruger LCP, LCR, Kel-Tech PM9, P3AT and Taurus PT709 or PT740, etc are small guns and greate for conceal carry but they are a bit snappy and take a greater time to master due to the size, weight, sights, ammo(9mm,38 or .380 with +P on regular pressure loads) and trigger. So you need to get used to shooting them.

another thing I wanted to say is I welcome you to the Carry club, I hope you enjoy your life long trip to learning the art of conceal carry and personal defense..!

also remeber to train not just with a gun...because sometimes you are not going to have a chance to pull your gun and you may need to create that opportunity by getting physical with your attacker. :)

all and all enjoy your gun that is the main reason. I recommend Springfield XP or XPm subcompact (9mm or 40SW depending on your recoil tolerance level).
Smith and Wesson M&P compacts or there revolvers..!
Ruger LCP or LC9 and LCR revolver.
Kel-Tec PF9 or P11

if you want to spend some good cash

Kimber has a SOLO or the ultra carry line
Springfield EMP 9 or 40
Glock...well you can pick any single one of them :)
SigSauer has P250, P290, P239 or P238

hope it helps.

Nice work guys! Kim's VERY first post, asked in all innocence (until proven otherwise), and some of you "characters" just HAD to pull off a load of "Macho" crap. Tsk Tsk!

For those of you who took her seriously.... good on ya! (.... and sound advice.)

Ya don't "get it", some of you. Here's a chance to make a convert to the ranks of the self reliant and you blew it. What does Kim think of this? Hopefully she has a ready sence of "sexist humor"...... maybe not. She WILL have to report to her friends, however, that "....some of those gun nuts are JERKS!"

Apparently SOME folks have to retain "mantras" to preserve their self awareness (and their self appointed role) in life. (Heh. Heh. Heeeeeeeh! [Intended to be diabolical laughter.]) :thank_you2:

I sincerely hope that there are more good humored, common sense, easy going folk on this forum than there are crotchity, wanna be "do-gooders", and frankly that all too often encountered cant take a joke "old man" know it all buzz kill fuddy duddy cop of the world syndrome cranky pants types who think their uptight attitude is chivelrous(it ain't). Cause that would really suck.

Ms. Kimberly, simpley put you gotta do some leg work. Do some research, ask around and you'll find whats right for you. Its not the complicated "rocket surgery" some may have made it seem. And please understand that while women folk are rapidlly gaining notoriety and respect in the firearms world this is still a field predominately male. And while most are good guys, you are gonna run into some jack holes. Nobody knows everything. Regardless of how good it sounds and it helps to have a good sense of humor. Nothing you've read here was intended to be degrateing. You've read some guys(myself included) attempting to have a good time pulling your leg and some others over reacting. Have fun here and dont get drawn into the drama. Good luck on your search.
