Why Do You Carry Concealed?

Years ago I was the victim of armed robbery/assault. My life and a loved ones was threatened. I am a husband and just recently became a father.
 
Regularly read the paper and watch the news. Why do you carry? Will quickly become a very silly question.
 
A firearm being presented by the prepared individual is either check or checkmate.
Granted the person has not put themselves in a foolish situation because of the firearm.
 
I initially began with home-protection, then concealed carry so that I can carry without scaring others when hiking/backpacking. But the reason has always been protection of my family and myself.
 
Because I have the responsibility as a free citizen to protect myself and my family from hard men who may wish to do us harm. Each of us are the first line of defense and it only seems natural that we use the best tools available to us to accomplish the goal of living a long and happy life in the arms of our loved ones and to die an old man in our beds.
 
Why do i carry? I carry to protect myself my family and others who are around me and my property. I have CCP and carry all the time. I have said this before to other people the law can not be with you 24/7 and you never know when you need it.
 
Ok, first, I think you meant to spell "hear", that being said, I carry for the safety of my family, my friends, and for myself, If I happen to come apon a violent attack, and It's completely clear how the BG is and how the GG is, then I dout i could just sit by and do nothing, stay safe

No one asks why on the first items, I'm not sure why they ask for the last.
BTW:do this is directed at society, not the OP.
 
I carry concealed because of my training as an Eagle Scout- Be Prepared. I know that it is highly unlikely that I will find myself in a situation where I would need to use my gun to protect myself or others. However, on the slim chance that I am in a life-or-death situation, I will be prepared to live.
 
I had thought about this for a longtime. I am 62 years old, retired military. If something should happen in public, or more to the point,in my home, I don't want it on my conscience if I could have done something to protect my family, friends or an innocent bystander, and didn't do anything. I hope and pray I never have to use my firearm, but I feel I need to be ready if need be.
 
I have a wife and two young kids. My main responsibility as a father is to provide protection and guidance. My CCW permit gives me an opportunity to protect my family in a manner that I feel is indispensable.
 
I carry so I can feel MACHO!! At least that is what my wife tells me when I'm packing.

I've tried to explain the reasons of self defense such as never knowing when someone wants to do you or loved ones harm but it never registers with her.

The other statement that I haven't heard for a while was "you just want to kill somebody"! Really babe? You think that's why I carry a weapon?

Since her comments do not deter me from carrying she keeps her thoughts to herself now, at least most of the time.
 
colorado tried the "skip NCIS background check" for CCW holders,but it got killed in the pinko legislature.we'll try again.after all when you hold CCW in good standing,why should you have to incur the added hassle and expense?oh,that's right--no legal reason,just after the $$$$
 
I carry simply because it is a right as an American to do so. Self defense comes second on reasons why I carry I don't do it to feel big or speacial I do it because I can
