Traveling to California

I am an Oregon resident w/Oregon CHL to be traveling to San Diego temporarily for a day and back to Oregon. As I understand it, I can carry to the state line, then I must lock my weapon in a lockbox separate from my ammo and I'm legal? Any specific info I need to know on this in case I get stopped by LE?

Since you are traveling and since the conceal permit is not recognized in Cali, by locking it in the truck within a locked box unloaded and ammo locked elsewhere . That is fine.
Unless you are specifically pulled over and asked and show that it is is properly locked up and you do have a carry permit for Oregon But traveling , i don't see any issues.

What are the specifics and contingencies in the event of a crime taking place in my immediate area or crime happening to me, i.e. assault, robbery, and I can get to my locked up weapon in order to stop it? Would California LE make an arrest for someone carrying unlicensed in California, used proper precautions to follow the law by locking it up but needed to use it? I'm only traveling there for a frigging funeral and I can't stand being without my weapon!

If you have a semi-auto, better check the mag capacity vs. what state law allows. I may be wrong but I believe just possessing mags over a certain capacity is illegal.
Also, and this goes for any state, if you get pulled over and LE asks to search your vehicle, do NOT give consent. They may try to coax you into allowing by saying things like, "What do you have to hide". Just reply that if you want to search the vehicle, get a warrant as per your Constitutional rights otherwise write my ticket for the reason you stopped me and let me be on my way.

since your final destination within CA you are not given safe passage as per FOPA, you must comply with all CA and local laws.

are you a cop? if not why would you interject yourself into a situation where YOUR safety is not endangered?

No, if I were a LEO I would have stated so, further more not needed an answer to this question. LEO's can virtually go wherever they please with their personal carry. I wasn't suggesting that I was trying to interject myself into a situation either. I was just trying to get the specifics on Cali law with traveling. As far as the NRA-ILA law on Cali reads that temporary travel through california a unloaded and locked weapon inside a lockbox or gun safe of some sorts and ammunition locked and separate from the weapon is legal. Turns out we can't make it down there anyway, although I wish I could. It's a funeral for a fellow Marine I served with 2001-2004 and he died of lung cancer. He didn't even smoke. I would have been driving down with my wife and I hate being without my weapon. Thanks for the input everyone. Keep your powder dry. Semper Fidelis.

If I were you, I'd send flowers and a nice card. The US Constitution and your concealed carry permit isn't recognized in the Union of Soviet Socialist California. Enter at your own risk. Only criminals have rights in good ole' Californie...

Sorry to hear that. Hooyah!

To reply to one question the mag capacity in Cali is anything over 10 rounds is illegal unless that changed.

Yeah, I'd like to think that with enough NRA lawsuits previously taken place in USSC cities, i.e. San Francisco. We'd like to think that the state legislature in Sacramento imposing these laws would learn that restrictions only disarm good people. Thomas Jefferson was not only right, but his quotes make me think he had a time machine and he traveled to our time and saw the abysmal ways our government has gone due to "gun control" All we have to do is learn from our founders and we will have improvements in our society. Liberal democrat progressives won't accept that though, they'll fight it tooth and nail.
