Transporting Into or Through?

I will be traveling from Michigan to New Jersey for business with a couple of overnight stays in NJ. Of course, NJ does not honor the MI CPL so it's irrelevant. From my personal research, I am still unable to confirm that if I have my firearm unloaded, locked in a safe in the trunk and ammo kept separately and locked up in a different safe in my trunk, will I be considered "transporting into" or "transporting through" laws? This is important because "transporting into" does not require me to meet all of the 926A Fed rules listed. I called one of the troop stations in NJ and the sargeant on call told me that as long as I have it unloaded, locked in the trunk, etc....I should be OK.
Not so sure....Thanks.

Don't come here looking for the law. You will get too many differing opinions and opinions are just that. They are not the law. Find the law in writing somewhere or it's not worth a flip. Opinions will get you jailed or at the very least, minus your weapons and a possible reason to not let you carry or own anymore.

Just my opinion:):)

If you are transporting into New Jersey... What New Jersey law gives you a right to possess a gun in that state.
The FOPA gives you the right to transport through the state. No stopovers! Unless yo are attending a NRA sanctioned shoot.
As far as Keykutter's advice. e is correct. Follow it. Guess I wasted my time responding.
Good luck!

I recall a person got locked up because his transfer flight was cancelled at Newark airport. His firearm, which went into checked luggage, was in his luggage that he retrieved to stay at a hotel overnight. In the morning, he had the police knocking on his door, arresting him for possessing a firearm without a NJ permit.

The short of it is NO Guns into NJ & NY, especially NYC.
