Man Sustains Critical Injuries From StabbingThu, 15 Mar 2012 01:01:00 EDT
LAS VEGAS - A man is spending the night in the hospital after being stabbed on Fremont Street near 15th Street. Police are still looking for the suspect(s).
The unidentified victim was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition. Witnesses say he was stabbed several times.
Vernon Standifer wasn't completely sure why his friend was on the ground bleeding. All he knew was he had to help.
"He was incoherent. I tied his leg off to stop the bleeding, you know, and held his head up and trying to keep him conscious. You know what I'm saying, so he wouldn't go out," he said. "I was concerned about my friend, to make sure he's okay."
Metro Police say the stabbing happened at around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday just outside the Fremont Mini-Mart. The victim accidentally bumped into one of the suspects. The victim allegedly offered an apology, but police say the suspect chased, jumped, and stabbed him.
"They started fighting, and one guy started running for him," witness Zakayah Davis said. "Then, he picked up rocks and started throwing them at each other, and we seen him get hit with it."
Investigators are still determining what happened, but witnesses say the victim was stabbed more than once in a leg and arm.
"It kind of looked like the guy had a knife. I don't know. We were really scared. I didn't know," Davis said.
The victim is expected to survive. Police suspect another man was with the suspect during the attack. Police are looking for two black males.
