The Tula Myth

I choose to use Tula ammo, if and when I buy it, in my Eastern Block firearms. It is inexpensive, but dirty. Has anyone heard if the steel case ammo is hard on an extractor? That is an old story I heard years ago but have never heard of any real data on the topic.

The one instance I can specifically remember is about an Olympic Arms AR15 extractor breaking from repeated use of steel cases. I think I saw a thread about it on AR15.com... Personally, I have broken zero firearms while using steel cased ammo.

Thanks for the quick reply gunner!

I shot two boxes of Tula 223 thru my ar today. Two out of every box of 20 I had a problem. My extractor ripped a chunk out of the ring and I had to use a cleaning rod to knock them out. My wife's bt380 has a few fte with Tula. I have shot two boxes of it with my 92fs with no problems. To me it depends on the gun.

Exactly. The LG test showed that the steel cased ammo with bimetal bullet wears out the barrels faster so that is a plus for the brass cased FMJ from Federal. Estimated 3 times the barrel life with Federal/AE ammo.

Would have to be the brand in the upper I use most.:frown:

You Don't see it a lot but the TulAmmo BrassMax is Excellent. If you have the opportunity to pick some up in any caliber you should give it a try. The .223 was 17.99 for 50 rounds.

Trouble is, all of it is 55gr. I need 62gr for my 1 in 7 twist Colt. 55 shoots OK out to around 50 yards but at 100 yards I begin to see some keyhole action.

Hey, keyhole action creates some nasty wounds with FMJ.

All the 62gr I have is soft point except 20 rounds of XM855. Maybe I ought to buy the case that's at the shop.
