I highly recommend reading the column linked below. I lived in Tennessee (God's Country) for 31 years before moving to Paradise in SWFL and was not aware of this particular piece of history. This is exactly why the elitist left wants to take away our Second Amendment rights. Enjoy the read.

We had held our national convention and fly-ins at Athens for many long years, coming back year after year to be with friends, most of whom are now old and young ones coming in wanting to change the rules and so forth and so on. Little did I know about this Battle of Athens. Thank you for the link...it is really nice to know a bit of history there...I am sure some of my friend will be pleased.
