Polymer AR lowers

Anyone have one of the polymer AR lowers? I saw one at a recent gun show and was a little unsure with my first impression. Specifically the lower parts, the fire control group, didn't look well manufactured. It looked rough and unfinished. Anyone here have experience with them?

I bought a complete AR from New Frontier Armory Link Removed with a poly lower. I've had it since early July and put around 400 rounds of .223 and 1000 rounds of .22LR with a CMMG conversion bolt through it. So far so good. It does come with a lifetime warranty although I don't know what effect an "assault rifle" ban would have on that. Seeing as how you're from Utah that may have been the one you saw. I understand they've been going to shows up there.

If I remember correctly the lowers at the gunshow were a brand called Plum Crazy. I could tell that the internals were different than an aluminium lower because with the hammer down I could put the lower on safe. With a standard lower you can't do that. The internals didn't seem to be finished very cleanly.

With my NFA lower I can not put it on safe unless the hammer is cocked although I can't see that as an issue one way or the other. There are some videos on this site Link Removed about their poly lowers if you're interested.

.
I don't think it is an issue, it just indicates that the internal parts are different. Are your internals polymer or metalic?

I wonder how the hammer will hold up under long term use. I don't know of any other polymer firearm with a polymer hammer.

If you are not going to mistreat your AR-15 (under harsh combat conditions) then the difference in the cost of a poly vs milspec lower makes perfect sense. I know guys that have them and shoot hundreds of rounds through them without problems.
Lets face it, we take care of our guns, we keep them clean, we are not crawling through jungles or deserts and dragging them through swamps. If you do, then you may want a milspec billet or forged lower and you will ge arguments there on which one is best and on and on.
Always ask yourself, What am I going to use this gun for?
Target Shooting?
Hunting?
Plinking?
Competition?
Zombie Apocalypse?
Collecting?
etc.
Then decide how much you want to spend. Poly lowers can be a good starter AR because they cost less.

Specifically I am asking about a polymer hammer striking a metal firing pin and being reset by the bcg. It make me wonder if it will hold up.

I do know there have been issues with where the lower attaches to the buffer tube. That seems like the only stress point. I know they addressed it by increasing the thickness of the polymer but will it hold up long-term, even with just plinking.

It does have a lifetime warranty. I've bought three guns and a lot of other stuff in their store and they have very good customer service.
