Obama wants Australian style gun laws

This crap has been plastered all over our news media today. "America's shame" seems to be the popular comment of the day

AUSTRALIA has got gun control right, says US President Barack Obama, while his own nation “should be ashamed” at its inability to address a surge in school shootings.

The president vented frustration and disbelief that there was no momentum for gun reform in the wake of a recent spate of mass shootings, in impassioned remarks likely to touch off a new row with the powerful firearms lobby.

“Our levels of gun violence are off the charts, there is no advanced developed country on earth that would put up with this,” the president said.

President Obama made the comments during a live question and answers session on the Tumblr web forum just hours after a gunman shot and killed a student at an Oregon High School in the latest shooting incident.

He pointed out that Australia hadn’t had a single mass shooting since the crackdown on gun violence in the wake of 1996’s Port Arthur shootings.

“We are the only developed country on earth where this happens, and it happens now once a week,” he said.

President Obama revealed that the “biggest frustration’’ of his presidency so far was that Washington had not even taken “basic steps’’ to keep guns out of the hands of people that can do “unbelievable damage.’’

He said he respected the gun rights enshrined in the US Constitution, but said the idea that it was impossible to introduce background checks for gun buyers made no sense.

“The country has to do some soul-searching about this. This is becoming the norm, and we take it for granted in ways that, as a parent, are terrifying to me,’’ Obama said.

The president said he had found it “stunning’’ that new guns laws could not pass after the horror of the Newtown massacre in Connecticut which traumatised the country.

He said that the only way that the current status quo would change would be if public opinion influenced lawmakers, who he said were “terrified’’ of the powerful National Rifle Association (NRA) lobby group.

He also took aim at the argument often advanced by gun rights groups, that the real root of mass shootings was the lack of widespread mental health treatment.

“The United States does not have a monopoly on crazy people,” Obama said.

“It’s not the only country that has psychosis and yet we kill each other in these mass shootings at rates that are exponentially higher than any place else.’’

“What’s the difference? The difference is that these guys can stack up a bunch of ammunition in their houses.’’

Obama tried and failed to introduce some moderate restrictions on the purchases of certain types of guns after the Newtown massacre in which 20 children were killed along with six adults in December 2012.

Some key comments.

Australian gun control is not about not letting anyone have guns, there is still plenty of guns in Australia, it's about making high powered automatic and semi automatic assault rifles illegal

the gun laws in America are downright disgusting!!! Guns are a deadly weapon for goodness' sake and I can never see, for the life of me, why people think it should be "their right" to be able to own any weapon!!!

Good on him, Less Guns has to be a good thing,Oz is better place for it

What is WRONG with you people who say we are entitled to guns to defend ourselves
People like this are the reason this country has turned to sh!t.

There is absolutely no practical requirement to own an assault rifle other than to wage a war!

That pesky 2nd amendment will never see them surrender their right to arms

We Aussies sit back and think your all stupid in the USA. I feel sorry not only for the kids that lose their life but for the parents that don't want gun control and then lose their kids....

Victoria Police alarmed at rise in illegal guns on black market Now imagine how much worse the effects of what happened here would be in the United States.

POLICE are seizing guns at an unprecedented rate amid deep alarm at the number of illegal firearms in the hands of criminals.

The rate of people caught illegally carrying and using guns in Victoria has jumped by 30 per cent in the past decade as black marketeers cash in.

“We’re responding to so many shooting incidents now. We’ve got road-rage incidents where weapons are produced.”

Mr Fontana said bikies were major players in the illegal guns world.

“We know they’ve got some really nasty weapons. They’re moving them around all the time.”
I assume they're referring to the fully automatic firearms used in recent shootings.

"America's Shame" has a name and it's Barry Soetoro alias Brokeback Obama. 2 terms of the socialist muzslum prick and a spineless congress unwilling to put him in a 10 x 10 cage where he belongs. I am ashamed of my fellow citizens for voting this POS in office not once but twice. What is that saying "fool me once shame on you but fool me twice shame on me. Problem is we have waaaaaay too many low intelligence/low information voters who just wanna go push a button because the media put a candidate up on a pedestal. I think many of them realize their mistake, at least I hope they do but a lot people are also pissed off and are tired of all this corruption and lies and have seen the commie leftists (democrats & rino's) intent. I think a major change is coming to congress in November unless the machines are rigged again. I don't know what will happen then but if it goes badly then I can only think that a revolution is the next step.

From what I read the other day.....since the "ban" in Australia there have been no mass shootings! Good right? Firearms deaths have exploded 80% but no mass shootings. Whoo hoo

Sent from my SM-N900V using USA Carry mobile app

According to the statistics, gun deaths, including gun homicides, are down, but I'm dubious of official statistics. I'd say non-fatal shootings are definitely up, though. As I quoted above, gun crime in my state has increased 30% in the past decade.

Obama may want Australian style gun laws, but I'm as sure as hell exists, Australian style gun laws would be as welcome to most Americans as a hundred rattlesnakes at a square dance. Please don't fall for any of Obamas crap! And please don't get insulted Obama, but I didn't know your job is totally devoted to spreading ignorance throughout the world? Still, we know how busy you are and the fact that you have the work load of three men, Moe, Larry, and Curly.

A buddy of mine from the US sent me this poster issued by the AU police in the 90's.

Incredibly depressing.

Hold onto your rights.

DW98, don't forget NSW X Premier, Fatty OBarrel's recently sneaked through parliament before he crashed and burned, his 2013 Ammunition Amendment Bill! NSW firearms owners now can only buy ammunition for the particular firearm or firearms they legally own and they cannot purchase any ammunition until the registration papers for the firearms for which ammunition is required are produced and recorded by the dealer / gun shop owner. These recorded details can easily be forwarded on or be stolen by employees or computer hackers, giving criminals valuable information of where and what firearms are available. Hence so many break and enters where firearms have been stolen since this Bill was passed.

I wish he'd been kicked out earlier.

400 plus reported shootings in Sydney since late 2011. Yeah, that ammo bill is working wonders.

It has now been over 10 years since gun owners in Australia were forced by law to surrender personal firearms, a program costing more than $500 million dollars. The Facts: Accidental gun deaths / suicide, are 300% higher than the pre-1997 ban rate The physical assault rate has increased 800% since 1991, and increased 200% since the 1997 gun ban.

Robbery and armed robbery have increase 20% from the pre-97 ban rate. From immediately after the ban was instituted in 1997 through 2002, the robbery and armed robbery rate was up 200% over the pre-ban rates. While the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns. The ban has backfired, and is a dismal failure………

Hysteria continues down under.

"Welcome to Tasmania, Gun Control Australia spokesman Roland Browne says.

Tasmanian police launch public appeal to round up illegal guns - link
Updated Mon 16 Jun 2014, 9:37pm AEST Grace McCallum

Tasmania Police has launched a two-week effort to help rid the state of illegal firearms.

Operation Unification starts is part of a nationwide campaign that
aims to curb the manufacture, importation and use of illegal firearms.

According to police, most illegal firearms were once legal
and had either been stolen or were unregistered.

In the last financial year, 192 firearms were stolen and just 23 recovered.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Joel said some weapons were moved
to the mainland and most were acquired for use in serious crime.

"By serious crime I mean armed robberies and I mean other
crimes of menace, particularly of business premises," he said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Joel said most firearm thefts could be prevented by secure storage.

"If a firearm is stored safely and is stored in a proper receptacle for those firearms then
there is less likelihood that they will be stolen, particularly by an opportunistic thief who
may break in looking for something else and may come across a firearm," he said.

As part of Operation Unification - Illegal Guns Off Our Streets - police are urging
the public to come forward with any information about illegal firearm activity.

Gun Control advocates want Tasmania Police to take
their two-week crackdown on illegal firearms further.

Gun Control Australia spokesman Roland Browne said long-term solutions were needed.

"Tightening of gun laws, tightening of licensing, tightening of
storage and also a ban on semi-automatic hand guns," he said.

Last year's operation saw a 500 per cent increase in calls to Crime
Stoppers and led to 17 people being charged with firearms offences."

"Driver ,71, disqualified for 135 years, arrested again

AN ELDERLY man who is disqualified from driving for 135 years was allegedly caught behind the wheel on Monday.

Police say they found the Shortland man, aged 71, driving in Wallsend about 6pm.

Upon making inquiries, officers discovered the man was disqualified from driving until 2149.

He was charged and granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court in July."
They should disqualify him for another 135 years, that will teach him!

Guess Obama and his anti gun folks want us to go lay in a grave and be shot like his buddies are doing outside of Bagdad, he can go screw himself. Peace, Love, Colt 45.

While we ban guns let's ban airplanes too. Only two airplanes killed thousands of Americans at the World Trade Center. Only two man, guns are nothing.

I heard about that  I wonder if they'll jail him.

Unrelated, but important. I had this petition sent to me earlier. Try and spread it around as much as you can http://www.change.org/en-AU/petitio...zens-the-right-to-defend-themselves-with-guns

I doubt he's getting his guns back. I'm surprised they broadcast the part where he says, "What am I supposed to do? Wait for someone to attack you, and then go, "Wait a minute, I've just got to get my gun so I can defend myself.""
