New to here. .45 opinions

Seriously? I used to live in central FL. And I would carry everyday. I carried a Kimber Compact Custom all steel. Yes it gets hot there and Yes it can be a trick to carry but now if you know how to do so properly...... I tried a Glock 36 thicker than the 1911. And I didn't like the way it shoots compared to a 1911. I now carry a STI Escort (1911 model) in TX and when I travel to FL. I guess it is all in what you like best and are most comfortable with. BUT I am pretty sure my 1911 can out shoot a composite..... Well it is really in the shooters hands as well.

I live down here in Florida where you cant hide your carry easily. You try concealing a 1911A in a pair of shorts. Here its about comfort and stopping power. For these reasons the composite compact glocks beat these other pistols senseless. The felon will be bashing your dentures out of your head before you know what hit you. Some of these threads are such crap, they just make me wonder about the knowledge possesed by some of my fellow CCW. No wonder there are groups out there trying to take your rights away- Read the literature, do some research and make your own informend decision- and please dont shoot me while you try and figure out which end the " bullets" come out of.

A 1911 has a longer barrel than a G36 but yes, it is the skill of the shooter. Within 20 feet is where 90% of all altercations take place even Helen Keller can hit you at that distance. As far as a steel handgun? please- why carry that in this weather when a composite weapon is far lighter and far more comfortable. People whine about " plastic guns" but they shoot AR15 and all the other COMPOSITE weapons all day

You can get many quality pistols that are not steel. Kahr makes a good light weight alternative to a Glock DAO light close to the same size as the 36 a little thiner I think but really not noticeable.
My STI that I now currently carry is only 0.22 inches longer than the 36 and just under 2 oz heavier. So to me it is not that much lighter or comfortable. The thiner 1911 to me carries better and is a smoother trigger squeeze The STI is made of aluminum not steel. (I was talking about the pistol my limber I was caring) I was not bad mouthing composite guns at all. I am just saying that there are other options for caring a .45 or any gun for that matter then the block. Glock may not be the best option or the best carry piece for everyone. YEt often on these forms the first thing that comes out is ehh just get a glock. I have owned one, I have carried one, I personally don't care for them nor will I rely on one for personal defense any time soon but that is my own opinion and experience with them. I really did give mine a fighting chance even carried it for almost a year and shot it regularly. As far as shooting and accuracy I can't fault my STI it is much smoother and more accurate (probably from my trigger squeeze on the glock) than the 36 ever was for me. Even my DAO Kahr was a better shooting piece then my glock and it has a longer reset and squeeze then the glock. When I go to the range I don't just shoot to shoot or take time for the perfect sight picture etc. I shoot as I would defesively and by far the STI out shoots my glock or kimber or kahr.

The title of this post was .45 options and that is what I was trying to relay. Glock is not the only carry option and you can get a spectacular 1911 model that is appropriate to carry in al weather conditions.

My wife and I bought a Springfield 1911-A1 sat, it is the stainless mil spec model, we took it strait to the range, along with our G21-SF and our 226 Sig 40, and our G-36, out to 10 yds all 4 guns almost used the same holes, the 36 took a bit more concentration to keep from pulling off, but at 15 yds the Glocks opened up the group.. a little from maybe 2inch to 2.1/5, at 25 yds the Sig and Springfield were still grouping 2-2.1/5, the Glocks opened to about 4 inch, this was not on a rest but I did kind of lean against the wall, and I should say in all honesty I carry the 36 the most, and just for fun and comparision, we brought our 10/22 ruger rifle, and it put 10 shots in a nickle at 25 yds

Try a Ballester Rigaud. Only problem is the poor quality sights. Put on some decent ones and you have a very serviceable 1911-style shooter.

To each his own, You know the quote about opinions. Your rite-the thread should be about the caliber and I appologize to all for getting off topic. I no longer collect weapons and have only shot to maintain my carry ability, the primary concern being protection. The 45ACP in 230gr SJHP will stop a rhino. The NRA instructer told the class " hold the pistol against your stomache and keep pulling the trigger" works for me!

Hey brother go try out a Ruger P345. Its 45cal, slinder like 1911, light weight, 8+1 capacity and a picatany rail.

I will second this nomination! Rugers p345 is a great firearm ccw with it for my first five years of carry! Never had an issue and excellent at the range!

It really boils down to just what size and weight are you willing to haul around all day and night, day and night after day and night.
I have both .45&.40s and I mostly carry my .40 Glock23 lots of power and a high Cap. Mag.

Absolutely! Personal protection is just that' personal' If it works for you- carry it. You like this?, you like that? If your close enough a brick will work also- but my purpose is to stop the felon-1) at a distance and 2) with one round- preferably so they cant testify later( my lawyer told me thats VERY important!)

I agree after just finishing 11 Months moving slowly through our court system being wrongly accused of pointing a firearm at a person, and a jury trial it would have been better if I had just really shot this jerk.

Sorry to hear that! The citizen is caught between the bad guy and the courts, neither are your friend. I hope this does not follow you down the road

Well I have now filed a law suit for the sum of over $10,000 against Mr. Steven Jay Sockey, so he now must defend himself against a malicious prosecution. I won my trial lets see how it works for him. ;-)

Excellent! State, Federal and Local LEO are paid by you in the end, they are not Gods. ANYONE who abuses the citizen under cover of Power should be punished- Dont invest your proceeds in the market!

Don't see how you can go wrong with the Ruger I own two a 9mm and .45 in the p345 model. I love my Ruger p345 it's the most comfortable pistol I have ever shot. Went out yesterday and put 50 rounds thru it shooting from every position I could think of and it performed great, it's not finicky about what you shoot through it it seems to handle everything easily. Hope their new 1911 is the same.

I've owned my p345 for about 4 yrs now and I carry it IWB in my own holster design I've carried it in just about every position you can think of and it's always comfortable. The only draw back to it is the long trigger pull in DA mode so I just pull the hammer back rather than mess with it.

So tired of this glock crap

Get your self a Glock21.

You should be banned from this site. A new member came in and asked a question that they would like information on and every time we get someone like you in here and ruin it for everybody. It's very simple....If it doesn't apply to you, don't reply. Get a life!!

Hey anyone see the youtube video where a guys is carrying a owb paddle holster and a guy come up behind him grabs the gun while it is in the holster and pushes down and twisted the holster and gun right off his body. took the gun and holster from him left the holster backing in his pants like in 2 seconds. wow i am never getting that kind of holster. there was not a thing the guy could do after his gun was grabbed 2 seconds and it was gone. I think I am going for a solid holster no plastic or composit holster, i am thinking leather. now what do you guys think. watch the video search youtube for ( I think it was kydexs holster grab or paddle holster grab.) is this what can happen with any plastic holster and I saw a video where a gun was taken apart while a guy was holding it by a second guy what kind of gun was that. these kind stuff is why I stick with the stuff that have worked for years, this new **** has bugs. or things you find out later.
Is it a glock? or what?

I have not , yet , but will for sure. Thanx for that heads up- thats one thing about open carry that bothers me. I carry in a paddle/composite- and have for years. But I have a shirt over it, even here in FLA I just wear a tank top and an open shirt. I have owned a variety of leather over the years but chose the paddle for that reason. If I sit somewhere safe I can take it off without the belt etc. Plus im a cheap bastard and leather is $ Before you say " whats your life worth!' I have to check with my wife-hold on
