I've had 3 or 4 encounters myself.
1 was open carry while unknowingly on Indian Reservation property here in Phoenix. He walked up, smiling and mentioned the Indian Reservation area, and politely asked me to take it back to my motorcycle and lock it in the trunk. SURE! No problem!
2 In Texas, got pulled over for speeding (not paying attention) Trailer I was pulling had brake light out (great), and the .45 on the dash. He asked if I had a permit for the Ruger, told him he already had my CCW card, he looked at the card, gave me a warning for speed and light and let me go.
3 The Oklahoma stop mentioned above.
I open carry when I ride my Harley I OC usually, and even when the LEO's pull up by me at a light or something like that they don't even look twice at me. They all know the laws here and don't go over the edge about it.

I was hunting in Utah one year, around Flaming Gorge. 1980 Toyota Pickup, 35 inch tires. Wyoming HP passed us, and then slowly turned around. He was not in any hurry to catch me. Turned his lights on WAY back there and I just pulled over. It was just us and him. We were young, had guns all over the truck, of course. Unloaded my .357 and all the shells fell into the potato chip bag, cause I didn't know what the laws were on loaded pistols at the time. Then we hid the pistol. I don't know why.

On the back of the stack of camping supplies, dead center over the tailgate, was case of Corona tied in (just to give you the complete picture of what the HP saw). My 2 friends decided to get drunk that morning (yuck) instead of hunt. So, they smelled something fierce. Cop walks up and says "Do you know how fast you were going?" I said, "65 ish". He said "68 in a 55." I started laughing and said "Sir, honestly, it was downhill and that the fastest this truck has ever gone (tires and all)." He started laughing and we got to talking (away from the idiot drunks) so he could see if I was drinking (No.). Nice guy. Gave me a warning, and also wrote out on the back time and speed numbers (60 seconds = 60 mph over a mile) so I could check my speedometer. Really, a great encounter.
