My Interaction

Today I was driving on the interstate and was pulled over by the highway patrol for speeding. I didn't think much of my speed since I was miles upon miles away from any town and no matter how fast you go, you still feel like you're going slow. Completely in the middle of nowhere.

Anyway, I passed the highway patrolman and knew he would be coming for me so I pulled over and he arrived shortly after. Being in a state that does not require notifying, I did not mention the Glock in my pocket or the other Glock in the car. I looked down at the cop's belt and noticed it was a Glock and we got to talking guns for a short while and I was given a warning and a thanks for not making him chase me down the highway.

In the end, it was a great interaction and I chose not to notify because it was unnecessary and would have potentially wasted both of our time. I'd like to give a big thanks to the Utah Highway Patrol

I didn't know you could speed in Utah...isn't their speed limit like 115?

Just kidding...glad you had a good encounter.

I'll second the Valentine One. I was headed up 95 in the Carolinas a few years ago and the unit went off, trucker behind me saw it glow and backed off. About 2 miles up the road guess who was hiding in a small valley behind some trees. I pulled off a short while later at a rest area and that trucker pulled in behind me and wanted to know what type of rader I had because he never saw one go off with that much warning.

That's why it is best to set your cruise control to stay within at least 4 mph or less of the max legal posted speed.

I set my cruise control for the max speed limit exactly, sometimes about 1/2 mph less.

But I learned in traffic school (illegal left turn on red after stop) that in many states they do not ticket unless your speed is 5 mph or more over the limit.

I don't know about most states but I know in SC that normally they will give you 5 mph on most roads and 10 mph on Interstate highways. I would think that this is about the standard but every now and then you will run into the exception. In GA they have different guidelines for the State troopers and local yokels because of the history of the GA speed trap towns. I know of a few towns in SC that do a great job of supporting the town off of speeders but it is because of the way the speed limits are set. Be very careful on obeying them or you will be pulled.

So let me get this straight....

1) You purposely goaded a LEO into a traffic stop.

2) You pulled over before even being lit up, because, well, you're just so special that way.

3) You and the cop shot the breeze on the side of the highway for awhile, and in the midst of a conversation about your Glocks, he thanked you and gave you a warning for purposely speeding past him and pulling over without even being asked.

And none of this sounds like a waste of either of your time? It sure was a waste of the Utah taxpayer's time!

Did you spit-shine his boots while you were on your knees licking them? Link Removed

Calm down down man.

You mean you've never came over a hill while speeding and seen a cop on the side of the road and known he was going to pull you over?

I've done it and the cop let me go because I pulled over as soon as I saw him

I've done that once here in Washington state at 100 mph... Young stupid... Brand new impreza ..76 degrees in eastern wa... Pulled over before being lighted up new it was coming. I also got let off with a warning. But I will tell ya that's the only time. I have not one , not two, but three tickets for less then 5 over

1. Goad- something that encourages, urges, or drives; a stimulus.

Perhaps it was my speeding that encouraged him to pull me over. Was is purposeful? Well I definitely could have watched my speed more.

2. Sometimes its better to just keep your mouth shut before you post and argue because you dont like me. Only an idiot would not just pull over after seeing a cop start spinning his tires in the dirt after you just passed him, while also checking your speed and realizing that you just passed him going over the limit.

3. Actually, the thanks and the warning came after the conversation about glocks. Not in the midst. Now that I think about time wasting, you are a waste of my time. Back to the ignore list.

You know you're going to Hell for this right?

The smaller the town, the more careful I am with the speed limit, especially if they're in the middle of nowhere.

Oklahoma State Trooper in my case and I was only 5 over, nobody else around, and he stopped me and said I better slow down, just a warning.
