A package of bills being considered in the MI House Judiciary Committee that would create a privacy lockbox for firearms owner/carry data is running into opposition from Dems on the committee and the Michigan State Police who think that the MSP policy of not releasing that information is good enough. MSP POLICY is not the same as BLACK LETTER LAW!

They need to hear from us NOW. Here is a list of the committee members:

Kevin Cotter(R) Committee Chair, 99th District (517) 373-1789
Klint Kesto (R) Majority Vice-Chair, 39th District (517) 373-1799
Kurt Heise (R) 20th District (855) 737-5878
Joel Johnson (R) 97th District (855) 563-5597
Andrea LaFontaine (R) 32nd District 1-866-347-8032
Tom Leonard (R) 93rd District (877) 859-8086
Martin Howrylak (R) 41st District 1-877-248-0001
Link Removed (D) Minority Vice-Chair, 10th District 1-855-347-8010
Link Removed (D) 27th District 1-888-347-8027
Link Removed (D) 53rd District (517) 373-2577
Link Removed (D) 14th District (517) 373-0140

In firearms-related issues, the MSP are NOT OUR FRIENDS. They have opposed nearly every measure that would protect our Second Amendment rights - and this is no different.

***UPDATE***

No decision was made on this package of bills today. It is being scheduled for more discussion next week. This gives the anti's more time to dig up additional emotional testimony regarding their belief that we need to make these records publicly accessible.

This also tells us something about the repubs on this committee. THERE ARE 7 REPUBS AND 4 DEMS ON THIS COMMITTEE - THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO APPROVE THIS PACKAGE OF BILLS WITHOUT EVEN BREATHING HARD, LET ALONE NEEDING TO SCHEDULE ANOTHER DAY FOR FURTHER TESTIMONY AND DISCUSSION.

They need to hear from ALL OF US - ASAP. I have already contacted each of their offices. Tomorrow is Friday, so they will likely be in district, as they will also likely be on Monday. If you live in one of these districts, make a point of stopping wherever they are holding their office hours (this will usually be posted on their web sites; simply click on the name of your rep and it will take you there) and letting them know that you EXPECT them to approve this package of bills without further discussion.
