Looking for information on a lever action 357 rifle

I'm looking for a lever action rifle for two reasons.

1st to carry around the farm in a scabbard on the 4-wheeler.

2nd. I don't have a lever action and I have been asked to discuss firearms with a local Boy Scout group, it would like to have all actions for the discussion. When I did hunter safety training someone always had a lever action available in our training group. I was usually the Black Powder and Archery Guy.

Anyhow I'm looking at a Rossi M92 357 with a 24" octagon barrel blued.

All information appreciated.

Rossi Lever Action .357

"Anyhow I'm looking at a Rossi M92 357 with a 24" octagon barrel blued."

I own that exact rifle. It is my favorite of all my others. I can hit a can at 100 yards easily. The heavier barrel really helps hold the shots together. When my friends shoot it, they all seriously want to get one themselves. The action might be a tad heavy, and the bullet gate is a little stiff, but you can get a kit from Steve's Gunz, The Home of the Rossi 92 Specialist to rework that if you want. It's not made to be a sensitive hunting rifle... it's a rock-solid, sure-fire beauty!

It's a beautiful looking rifle and feels very solid. I actually prefer to shot .38 special thru it because I'm more accurate with them vs. the .357s. Just make sure you load only flat nose rounds because of the stacking nature of the ammo tube.

For the price, you can't beat this tough rifle. Just look what it did to my broken plasma tv!

while I do not have a Rossi I do own the Marlin 1894C in .357 goes nicley with my S&W 586. I enjoy it and nice to shoot 38spl along with .357. I have used it hunting a few times for deer using Hornady Leverevolution. It is my all around brush rifle.

Check out the Henry rifle too. They have them in .357 ... I believe it's one of the "Big Boy" line.
The brass receiver sure is pretty ...(they're tackdrivers too)

Chaunci,

Yesterday I went to a local Sportsman's Club Gun Bash and won a Mossberg Tactical .22 semi-automatic rifle. Being a black powder guy it was not my type of firearm.

So on the way home I stopped at the local Sportsman's Trading Post and traded it in on the Rossi M92 357 with a 24" octagon barrel blued.

They said it will be in about a week, as soon as it gets in I will let you know.

One reason I want it is I usually carry my 9mm XDM with me when I'm working the back fields mowing, plowing or what ever.

Several times I have had coyotes cross my path and I'm not bad with the XDM at close range but I need something that will reach out a little bit further with a little bit more accuracy.

I am going to mount a scabbard on the tractor it also will be more comfortable than the holster on my hip that rubs up against the tractor seat.

Thank You for the info.

ScottMac,

They had a Henry Golden Boy Big Boy Collection as one of the prizes at the Gun Bash yeasterday, but I wasn't lucky enough to win that prize.

It included 5 Henry Rifles they sure were pretty.

22LR, 22Mag, 17HMR, 44Mag, and a 45LC all consecutive serial numbers SRPC001 thru SRPC005

I did look at a Henry 357 they had at the Sporting good shop before I settled on the Rossi, all they had were brass and I didn't want brass.

Also fxstchawg,

Thanks for the information on the Leverevolution ammo.

Not Impressed with the Rossi M92 357 Rifle.

I picked up my Rossi M92 357 Rifle Friday and took it to the range Saturday morning.

Straight out of the box it shot 12" high and 8" to the left at 50 yards.

I moved the front sight way off center to the left to get the windage as close as I could.

Even after removing the ramp and moving the rear site down as far as possible it still shot 6" high.

I had to drive home from range and get a hack saw to cut the rear site groove deeper to adjust the elevation.

I needed a little more than my normal sighting in tools.

When I finally gave up I was still not impressed with it's or my shooting at 50 yards.

The action was a little stiff not bad but it is a real pain to feed ammo in the side loading slot everyone round hung up after the first two or three were loaded.

If you have a Rossi and it shoots hig????

If you have a Rossi and you run out of adjustment and it still shoot high this is the guy you need to contact.

The Henry big boy is a wonderful lever gun!!! I don't think there is a smoother lever out there! I have heard several stories where people are not happy with the Rossi 92.

Wizard,

I agree the Henry would have been a better choice, but I like the look of the Rossi.

I wanted a 357 and the only one I could find in the Henry had the bright brass that I didn't want.

Does Henry make a 357 that looks like the Rossi Model 92?

I mounted the new Skinner sights yesterday and plan on going to Cabela's today and get some round nose ammo which I hope will load better than the hollow points I used.

Rossi Firearms

Now I like my Rossi

After mounting the new Skinner sights and picking up 300 rounds of 132 gr. 38 Special at Cabelas yesterday I took it to the range this morning and sighted it in at 50 yards.

I had to file the Skinner over sized front sight down about 1/4" but now it shoots were I aim it.

I have a rossi in 45 colt for cowboy action shooting, its a great gun. I see alot of the rossi lever guns at cowboy action shoots.A friend of mine got a rossi in 357 and had alot of trouble chambering 357 cartridges, he had to have the loading gate redone by a gun smith. I have never heard of that problem with the rossi 45 colt.I got the stainless model with the 20" barrel and I love it.

I found a NIB Winchester 94 Trapper (from the high-quality Winchester days) in .357 magnum for such a ridiculously low price that I couldn't resist it even though I don't ride around a ranch in open-top jeeps or on horseback. Trouble is, I have trouble justifying shooting this classic just to punch holes in pieces of paper. Maybe if I start wearing pointy-toes cowboy boots and a bandana...
