Yes, your NC CC permit is noted on your vehicle registration, and on your Driver's License. (Note that your CC permit number is the same as your DL number)

Now I know. Just hope I don't have another occasion to panic some young trooper in the future! LOL! Given my average of a "stop" per decade, and the fact that this decade is already "taken"..... I will start to really worry about it in the 2020s, with the provision I make it that far. :biggrin:

Traffic Stop

I'm always leary about what might happen if I'm stopped for a traffic infraction and I'm either carrying or have a weapon in the vehicle (I have a CCW). Yesterday it happened.
Happened to be in an intersection waiting to turn left when the light turned red. And of course there was a deputy sheriff behind me. Immediately she turned on her lights and I was trying to figure out what I did (I was watching oncoming traffic instead of the light-and didn't see it turn red). Oh no, my greatest fears are happening!
She asked me if I saw the light turn red, then asked for my license and registration. With my license I gave her my CCW permit and told her I have a CCW but am not carrying (I was not carrying). She looked at the CCW and gave it back. Before she went back to her car to check me out she asked if I had a weapon. Again I told her I was not carrying.
OK, cool. Although I thought she was taking a long time checking me out. But then another sheriff with lights flashing pulls up behind her. Heart rate doubles. He gets out and goes to her car and talks to her. After a while he gets back in his car, and she gets out and comes up to my car and gives me a ticket.
I'm really wondering why the other officer was called to the stop. Was she wary about me? And from that I'm really leary about what would have happened if I had been carrying. Would they have made me get out of the car and searched me or taken the gun, or handcuffed me while they were giving me the ticket???

Telling a cop you aren't carrying while there's a weapon in the vehicle is a really good way to get your chops busted.

Since you have to inform in Nebraska just hand them the permit and shut up.

I don't need to tell the cops that I'm carrying in my state, so I will not.

Luckily I've been pulled over only once in my life; and that was because my sports car didn't have a front plate that was apparently mandatory in that state.

I live in a rural area and both the County Deputies and the State Troopers frequently set up "license checks" (DUI checks). I probably go through one at least once a month. I always hand them my carry permit together with my DL, and tell them I'm packing and where its at. I've never had one express any real concern about it.

I have a number of friends and neighbors who are LEOs (Deputies, Troopers, and city police). All of them are very pro concealed carry. Every one I have talked to says they always carry off-duty.

But I'm sure there are a few antis out there in uniforms. I'm claustrophobic, and even the thought of having my hands cuffed behind my back makes me nervous.

I think (in states that have such laws) must in form laws are stupid but they are still the law and getting caught disobeying them will cause you far more problems than obeying them will.

Yes, if they wanted to. Probable cause [to search you and your vehicle] is as broad as the ocean and gray as rain clouds. "for my safety" is the latest favorite LEOs use to circumvent that pesky Fourth Amendment - justified by little more than a "feeling" that you may be dangerous or are hiding a weapon. I'm not suggesting this scenario happens often but it happens and nothing exempts you or me from the low number of chances. Whewww ... got it all out. Now I'll sit back and wait for the LEO-sensitives to slam me for speaking about LEOs with a tone less than worshipful. Others on this forum get frantic at the mere mention of anything constitutional, prompting me to put my "YOU CONSTITUTIONALIST!!!! helmet on. :biggrin:

Was stopped in TX with a AR CCW, which I am legal to carry, and the office was very nervous about me telling him. I didn't make any fast moves, but was very glad that I had informed him of the gun.

I'm in Kansas, our CCW and DL are the same number but on different cards. We are not required to notify a LEO unless they ask. I have been pulled over for speeding once since I got my CCW, been on the receiving end of another driver that was not paying attention when I and the guy behind me were stopped to make a left hand turn and called the police when our house was burgled. In each case I handed the responding officer my CCW license figuring if I were the responding officer I would want to know what was in play around me. All of the officers that I dealt with were very professional and courteous. One called me later on my cell phone to talk about concealed carry, find out what I carried and when, as he did not normally carry when he was off duty. The funny thing is he only makes a habit of carrying when he went to our local shopping mall. Which is posted (improperly) both on the doors and the parking lot as a no CCW area. Since the state law lets us ignore the no gun signs on buildings that do not post correctly I too ignore the signs at the mall.

Why would it be any business of there's where it was located? Do they also need to know where your jack and tire iron are located? What about your video camera? I simply don't give up any of my liberties knowingly if I can help it.

do you understand the sign??? if the mall owner doesnt want to to ccw on their property why do you ignore it?? would you want someone on your property who had something you didnt want there??

Knowing where (what state, at least) someone is from who's posting in this thread can make a tremendous difference. Some of the people here are posting from Liberal socialist states with gun laws that would make any Eastern European feel at home. Others are posting from states where most of the original 2nd Amendment is still in effect. There are states where the State Highway Patrol have a national reputation as jack-booted thugs and states where the Highway Patrol actually behaves as peace officers who respect the average citizen's rights and the citizen as well.

Here in Missouri, with the exception of a few notorious St. Louis suburban villages, the police are generally supportive of citizen CCW. There is no requirement or reason to volunteer the information that one is exercising one's rights unless the officer specifically asks; then the law requires that one tell the officer that one has a CCW and/or is armed. Most often those cops who do ask are employed by localities with a reputation/record of police abuse of citizens in the form of speed traps, arbitrary confiscations of property, etc.

Other states require that the officer be told one has a CCW as soon as he approaches the car. And still other states such as New Jersey or Massachusetts have police and attitudes that would do Nazi Germany or the old Soviet Union proud. As a former OTR trucker, I don't have the highest opinion of the State Patrol in Ohio, Tennessee, or Virginia, either. There, should I be unfortunate enough to actually visit those states, I'd probably inform up front and have the K-Y jelly handy for the subsquent TSA-like experience. (Well, not New Jersey or Massachusetts--my CCW would not be valid there so I simply cannot imagine ever even entering those states.)

My point is that knowing one's location or at least one's home state is a helpful bit of information in evaluating the opinions expressed in this thread.
