All right, boys... I expect you will be runnin' for them hills now?!?

I think that pretty much says it all....
Just wait 'til I get that one bullet loaded that Andy gave me...Aw, for Pete's sake! I left it at the station!

In reality, though... I think that anyone who relies upon the "element of surprise" should carry a firearm without a round chambered. Doesn't carrying an unloaded gun greatly enhance the "element of surprise?" I mean if the criminal is going to be surprised by you retrieving your gun from concealment, wouldn't they be that much more surprised if you also had to take time to load it? [/JESTING]

That is EXACTLEY how they do it on TV (and TV is the best role model ya know). Stand there pointing a gun in his face talking like a bad ass, and then... after 5 minutes of scolding... just to let him know you mean business... you go ahead and chamber one. OR... you just rack the slide pretending you chambered one. Tha leaves you the option of installing the mag and doing it again so you can surprise him again.

I started watching a B rated DVD only movie that was obviously made in someone's garage. One of the first scenes shows a guy getting ready to answer a door, and he loads his gun to do so. He racks the slide, and you can see there is not even a magazine inserted in the gun. On top of that, they amplified the sound and you could clearly hear that it was an empty gun. I turned off that movie less than 10 minutes into it.

 Yeah, I love it when the do that!

just watched a episode of "marvel; shield". in the show a guy pulls a double barrel from a saddle scabbard, it made a racking sound. then when the GG takes the shotgun and point it at the BG, again it makes a racking sound. that was so stupid

Howdy thru,

ok, for those who don't have enough background. I see other posts commenting upon it being "silly" to be chamber empty. Because it's "so slow". I point out that I am faster to the hit even if I am carrying chamber empty. So the THE ISSUE IS HOW FAST YOU ARE (or are not) to the hit. If you aint really fast, then your commentary about the chamber empty carry mode is just talk. Since it's rare to have to fire, much less hit, the condition of the chamber doesn't mean all that much. Leave the punk an escape route and get the gun pointed at him early enough, and the odds are quite high that you won't even have to fire. Be too slow to get the gun out and pointed at the guy, and/or corner him, and you'll probably lose out, in one way or another, regardless of whether or not you keep a round chambered.

U r an ID ten T without a doubt.

You have a draw speed of 1.5 seconds and you think your fast?

WTF?!?!?

I have a CE Pocket Pro II timer and with my Glock 23 in a Glock holster OWB @ 3:00 drawing from cover ( under an IDPA legal cover garment.... I usually wear a short sleeve Dickie's work shirt ) and from the "beep" I can react, draw and fire hitting the "0" ring on an IDPA target from 15' with 10 "draw and shoot" for an average time of 1.16 seconds and I'm sloooow.

In 1.5 seconds I can fire numerous rounds ( usually 3 ) or engage 2 targets with at lest 1 round per target and I'm sloooooow.

SHTF:
1. Find cover if possible.
2. Be ready with firearm.
3. Engage and Fire ONLY if your life is in danger.

You could have to do all 3 at once. How you prepare is up to you. Not this forum.
