Common Core Standards

Yes, private industry will keep our water sources free of pollution, keep our brokers and securities dealers from picking their client's pockets, keep our food supply from being contaminated.

I can't wait untill the day there is no government getting in the way of us privateers.

Aarrr! Someone killed my parrot with poisonous pet treats!

Yes, actually without a government to hinder the flow of economics, free enterprise would take care of all of that. If you can't understand how, you need to read a bit more on the subject, my friend.
The belief in government is, at it's core, a belief that you are not capable of personal responsibility, and you require someone else to make your decisions for you. It's weakness incarnate. I don't believe I need anyone to tell me how to live, what to eat, or what I can or cannot do. I am highly intelligent, self-proficient, and well-educated. I don't think anyone else knows me as well as I know myself, though Government would have you believe differently. I also don't believe that everybody should be treated the same. Socialism doesn't work. Everybody isn't the same.

Right, it was government regulation that caused Hooker Chemical to create the worst environmental disaster in the US. And it was government regulation that caused Allied Chemical to turn Onondaga lake into the richest deposit of mercury in the US.

Private industry has one objective - make money today regardless of the cost tomorrow.

It is irrational in the extreme to even think that a large, modern society can be secure, safe, and healthy, and even prosperous (governments build highways, for example) without government. The "individual liberty and initiative" canard doesn't hack it anymore, if it ever did. The day of the industrious American pioneer thriving through hard work, self initiative and virtuous living with only occasional exposure to the government down at "the county seat" is a thing of the past. Most people will take the path of least resistance every time and sacrifice the future for today's enjoyment--carpe diem. The private sector (not just here but all over the world) caused, for example, global warming and will not spend one dime to fix it absent enormous pressure from government. I shudder to think what kind of dangerous drugs would be on the market as well, for another example, if it weren't for agencies like the FDA. Big government: the solution to this country's ills. Civilization is too important to trust to unregulated individuals, however well that may (supposedly) have worked in the 1800s, and education based on rigorous national standards and curricula is one way to keep us civilized, or semi-civilized at least.

Bring on the "socialist," "communist," and "liberal" labels in all their forms. They're mildly comical.

Anecdotes aren't statistics. Try again, please.

I'm so tired of the "who'll build the highways?" argument. That was disproven years ago. A simple google search would have answered that question. Again, private industry could do it faster, cheaper, and better.

I don't believe the Federal Government has any business sticking it's nose into the education system. If you look at history, prior to Carter's introduction of the Department of Education, the US educational performance levels were much, much higher than they are today. After the creation of the DoE, things started going rapidly downhill, and have continued t do so right to the current day. There is nothing the federal government can do that private industry can't do faster, better, and cheaper. This is why Libertarianism will always beat Socialism.

And with the Common Core, they didn't. This was initiated between Governors of states.

The federal government, by way of the US constitution, has two jobs. Interstate commerce, and foreign policy. Anything beyond taht is outside it's defined limits. Federal taxes? By black letter law, they are only meant to apply to foreigners, not US citizens, but you can never argue this in court, because our courts are bought and paid for by the cronies in the federal government who depend on that income to thrive. Same thing applies to the NFA. By black letter law, the NFA only applies to lands owned by, or ceded to the federal government exclusively, but it's been perverted to apply to everyone everywhere now through misinterpretation and a refusal to allow courts to hear cases regarding such.

As for you, nosreme, I'm sorry you limit yourself to only a narrow band of materials for your enlightenment. I hope that works out for you.

National defense? Print money? Patents? Copyright? Bankruptcy? (Etc, etc) And what about the incredibly important "necessary and proper" clause?

It's a testament to the fundamental strengths of this country that it can survive all the self-anointed
constitutional experts who don't have a clue what they're talking about...and who often behave as if that's a badge of honor.

States have supreme authority in regards to making law, so far as they do not violate the US Constitution by doing so, unless said power is yielded to the Federal government by the states.

I am, however, going to end this conversation here and now, as I was happy to debate this with you, but did not come here to be directly insulted by you because you lack the ability to support your arguments with facts, and merely choose to fling insults instead. I have better things to do with my time.

Which is proper, "in regards to" or "in regard to"? A simple google search would have answered that question.

Hopefully that is on the common core standards test.

It too shall pass! How can you have a Common core standard when the grading scale at each school district is different?

I teach school, and this is only the tip of the icing!

Stereotyping classist racist. Good job. Can he be any more ignorant or was that pushing your author's boundaries?

If that's addressed to me, I thought I'd post it because it was on-topic. I wasn't endorsing it or any other viewpoint in doing so.
