You are gonna discover why I am soooo happy to live in Virginia after 44 years in the People's Republic of California. The short answer is.... yourshitoutaluck. California is right up there with Maryland,New York and DC in terms of violating the citizen's constitutional rights. You have a much better chance of winning a double lotto then you have of obtaining a CWP in California. BUT.... if you need a gun.... your in luck. Every gang banger and bad guy out there is armed to the teeth. So much for the logic behind the socialist anti gun laws. Get out of there as fast as you can! You do not want to be in Cali when the **** hits the fan.

It depends solely on what county you live in. Some counties are very liberal in giving out carry permits, some only give them to buddies of the Sheriff, some only give them to movie stars, lawyers, and judges.

That map isn't really scientific or up to date. We created a new map to indicate actual issuance vs. eligible population using carry license data obtained from Dept. of Justice and census data obtained from Dept. of Finance. We also publish approved good cause statements from the counties as we acquire and redact them (for any remaining personal information). Those are also at the link.
