Kicks for Guns

I find this an interesting stat

Last year, we took a total of 1,065 guns off the street with 52 of them illegal/stolen.
I would have thought the number of 52 to be higher.... coming from kids.

Gun buyback programs do very little to "remove guns from the streets". The vast majority of guns that they get in these programs are either broken or very neglicted guns from people's closets/storage sheds that have been their for years because the people didn't know how or want to dispose of them because you can't just toss a gun in your trash can. The "illegal" guns are mostly old sawed off shotguns that people possessed before they became illegal and have been stashed on closet shelves hidden away. Or a person not interested in the guns acquires them unwanted through inheritance. People will even go to Walmart and buy BB/pelet guns and take them straight to the gun buyback programs and turn them in to make a few $$$ profit. The idea that a street criminal who has obtained a gun illegally is just going to walk up to a group of cops and hand their gun over is just as ridiculous as everything else the anti-gun groups try to get us to believe.
