One in chamber? Yes / No

After reading some of these comments about chambered round , I wonder if any one has had to draw in public to defend them selves ( no LEO's ) ? Some states do not allow CCW to carry chambered . Idaho does not if IIRC
You are very mistaken, especially about Idaho. There is no state that allows concealed carry that also does not also allow the firearm to be fully loaded with one in the chamber. Idaho even allows fully loaded open carry of firearms without any permit required.

Don't forget NY and having your bullets counted to make sure you only have 7.

There is no distinction in any of the handgun laws in NC between loaded or unloaded, it's just not mentioned in any of the statutes.

Adrenaline dumps are beyond anyone's control, and they occur as part of our body's natural reaction to danger, either fight or flight. Never experienced one as related to guns, but as a firefighter for 31 years, I have experienced them a number of times. All bets are off, and training and muscle memory kick in. Fine motor skills are also out the window, such as the ability to rack a slide far enough to chamber a round, take a safety off.

And if your don't expend that adrenaline through action as the situation immediately changes for the better, you will have a headache from hell.

Amen brother. A friend of mine who works for the same company was involved in a shoot out with a kid who was known as being a shooter for one of the local gangs at a night club where we had the contract for security. Kid walked up and shot a bouncer, my friend went after him when he took off running.
I talked to my friend about this event later, and we discussed his adrenaline dump. He said "nah, didn't happen to me" (this guy is 285 lbs, 6'1" former golden gloves) I laughed and started asking him questions about the timeline. He didn't remember dropping the large container of OC he was holding, but he remembered drawing his gun. He didn't remember hearing any of the gunshots fired at him, or any of the 11 he fired back from his Glock .40 S&W. I mentioned that some of these things are signs of that A. dump, and he thought about it then said yeah, you're right, and laughed.

One in the pipe, cocked and locked is the only way to carry a handgun. If you don't feel confident, you are not ready to carry, period. The only reason to carry is being fully prepared to act instantly.
Training to be proficient at handling handguns is always the answer. When I draw my micro 1911 style Sig P938 my thumb strokes the safety off in presentation so the trigger finger is hot to go. My safe action trigger Glock is the best system for a well disciplined shooter. My wife says 'just remember you're 50yr older than you think you are Bud' so I pacified her by putting a Saf-T-Blok behind the trigger which pops out as I place the finger in position. I consider that finger is probably the most educated and responsible organ in my body. Unfortunately my education on firearm safety started as a 14yr old being victim of another teens careless gun handling. Even now when I see guns displayed in stores with muzzle toward me I see it firing. If more folks saw guns with that respect accidents would drop dramatically!

I carry one of several firearms, depending on the weather, etc., and the chamber is always loaded. If I have to draw and fire, I'm not going to be wasting time racking the slide to get a round ready to go ... another thing to think about, especially with the smaller .380s and 9's many of us pocket carry ... the mags only hold 5-7 rounds; do you want to give up the one that might save your life? Load the mag, rack the slide and refill the mag and you should be good to go ...

I think what he is probably thinking of is that there are some states that do not consider a firearm "loaded" unless there is a round in the chamber. Irrelevant though, since if you have a CCW permit you can carry in manner you wish, loaded or otherwise.

Speaking of state restrictions...for the states that have capacity limits like 7 in NY, does that include one in the chamber or can you have 7 in the magazine and 1 in the chamber?

No kidding. If you can't trust your weapon or yourself, you're carrying the wrong weapon or shouldn't be carrying.

It's too dangerous to keep a loaded gun on you.

Why? That is an answer most often based on emotion and not factual evidence.

A bad guy will be coming in loaded. Wouldn't you want to extend him the same courtesy?

I guess this is another thread that never goes away, I guess whenever a newbe get his permit it pops up, all I can add is if your not comfortable carrying with a round chambered then maybe you should not have the gun with you at all

Again, he was being sarcastic. Not sure that you're going to find that progressive of a thought process on this forum.

But on the topic of this whole thread, I'm going to make a motion to have this thing locked down. It's like a damn broken record. Do I have a second?

Yes...a big ol' SECOND!

Wow, this topic has been done to death, hasn't it? The overwhelming consensus here at USA Carry, and among the CCW community in general, is to always carry your gun holstered with a round in the chamber.

Lock it and sticky it.. The newbs can read through it, get the general consensus and we can kill this thread for good
