I'm not talking about your ability to shoot. I'm not talking about how many rounds of 5.56 or 7.62 you have either. What I'm talking about is the supplies and gear you'll need. Assuming you've got children, moving them away from the fight would be a priority, as would be protecting them.
Many of us will stand and fight if that day ever comes, but after the fight will come some relative silence. You'll be standing there in front of the smoking ruins that were once your home. Do you have food? Water? Just as importantly, do you have the gear to carry these items? Put the idea of driving out of your head. The roads will be packed with refugees and impassable. You're safer moving from cover to cover in the woods than you are in a panicked crowd. What kind of clothing do you have? Tennis shoes or combat boots? Jeans or BDUs/ACUs/DCUs with moisture wicking shirts, extra socks, foot powder etc etc? Medical supplies? Shelter? Could you build one if necessary?
Put some thought into what you'll need. It may be that the day to fight never comes, but a tornado, hurricane, or even a terrorist attack may. It pays to be prepared.
